Former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, was in attendance at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas for the UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Holland. ‘The Eagle’ was streaming the middleweight main event fight between Derek Brunson and Kevin Holland on his Instagram live.
As he ended his live video, Nurmagomedov said, ‘My Russian followers, sorry about my English.‘ ‘The Eagle’ recently c0nfirmed his retirement from the sport and the UFC has finally moved on from him as the champion. Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira will fight for the vacant lightweight belt at UFC 262.
I hope he’s not streaming this

However, the fact that Nurmagomedov was streaming the fight on social media, was ironic in many aspects as UFC President Dana White has repeatedly indicated that he is looking to catch illegal streamers and punish them. But one can guess ‘The Eagle’ escaped White’s blacklist, as he can certainly stream fights anytime he wants.
One half of the main-event, Holland, noticed Nurmagomedov’s presence in the audience alongside Dana White. ‘Trailblazer’ kept asking the undefeated Dagestani for wrestling advice as he was being out-wrestled by Brunson during the fight.

Brunson outclassed ‘Trailblazer’ during the fight as the veteran put his grappling prowess on display. He put the rising star on his back in every round of the fight. Holland didn’t have too many moments in the contest. However, he rocked Brunson in the second round and registered a takedown in the last round of the bout.

What’s next for Khabib Nurmagomedov after confirming retirement?
Nurmagomedov’s days as an active competitor in the UFC are over. But, it would be hard to imagine ‘The Eagle‘ walking away from the sport altogether. He has been a lifelong martial artist. So, the Russian will look to still keep himself connected to it, maybe even as a coach. It remains to be seen if he will remain a part of the promotion in some other way.

Nurmagomedov’s teammate, Islam Makhachev, is on the rise in the lightweight division. ‘The Eagle’ has been a part of Makhachev’s corners and camps so far. Hence, one can imagine he will only carry on upon that role, as his invaluable experience will be a great support for the emerging lightweight.
