Conor McGregor took to Twitter and sent a message to Dustin Poirier as the countdown to their fight gets underway. ‘The Notorious’, who is on a hiatus from intense training, let Poirier know he’s focused. McGregor, using Photoshop in a rather quaint manner, reminded Poirier about what happened when they first met in 2014.
Conor McGregor’s mind games are a thing of legend in the MMA world and he’s not one to back down. Despite coming off a TKO loss in their second fight, McGregor is channeling his inner ‘Mystic Mac’ by paying homage to their fights. Hence, it’s clear that Dustin Poirier is on McGregor’s mind, even though he is on a break.

The second fight took place in January and many believe that Poirier’s momentum going into the trilogy is critical. However, Conor McGregor has shown himself to be a wild card with making corrections and bouncing back from losses. His showcase against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 showed that he’s willing and able to make the necessary changes.

It’s the myriad of unanswered questions that have led to growing anticipation in the trilogy fight. Not to mention, the winner of Poirier vs McGregor 3 is all but certainly challenging Charles Oliveira for the lightweight belt. Poirier and McGregor are both extremely high-profile figures in the division and the UFC will want them in marquee spots.

It will be interesting to see where the lightweight division goes now that Khabib Nurmagomedov is out of the picture. Charles Oliveira will aim to solidify himself as the new king. Etching a win over the winner of Poirier vs McGregor will help aid in that effort. Several pressing questions will be answered when the curtain is finally drawn at UFC 264.
