His dominance in the octagon is so overwhelming that even the most elite fighters hesitate to step into the cage with him.

Jon Jones has earned the distinction of being hailed as the Greatest of All Time in the world of combat sports, thanks to his impeccable record. ‘Bones’ has tasted defeat only once in his entire career, and that lone loss came by way of disqualification. Within the combat community, Jones is often described as an unstoppable force. Even Chael Sonnen has openly admitted to having some trepidation about stepping into the Octagon with him.

There’s a price that is to be paid if you have the Goat status and that’s you will be often called out by other fighters for your past actions. Something similar may have just happened with ‘Bones’. Islam Makhachev while having a pre-fight press conference of UFC 294 attacked Jones for his p4p #1 status. “This is what a UFC champion has to do,” Makhachev said. “Like a real champion. If you’re a real champion you have to take the fight, it doesn’t matter how many days, who it’s going to be, not like your pound-for-pound champion [Jon Jones] when they gave him Chael Sonnen. When you’re a real champion, you have to fight.”

Jones was not amused by Makhachev’s random attack on him. He took to X(formerly Twitter) to add his statement. he added “I want to encourage the young fighters to beat some of my records instead of using their lips. Now that’s gangsta.” ‘Bones’ was rather calm in his response to Makhachev, However, fans were not as calm as Jones.

Makhachev’s random call out to Jones didn’t sit well with the fans who took to the web to express their anger and disappointment. Some of the comments by the fans are as follows: –

None of these young cats can hold your jock strap

2 total wins against ranked lightweight opponents. 0 lightweight title defenses from lightweight contenders and happily accepted a
Fight against a competitor from a weight class lower.., yup that’s checks out p4p #1 islam

Islam just makes it harder and harder for me to like him

Final score islam 0 – bones 10

Islam will go down as khabib’s cousin

Crazy part is islam is only 5 years younger than jones and 12 less title defences

Islam ain’t ducking no 1 boy

16 consecutive title fights a 3 year and two year and a half break no one’s gonna have a run like that again

All islam does is talk shit and he’s so bad at it

It is rather evident from the reactions of the netizens that they are not amused by Makhachev’s words for Jones and it is justified too since Jones has a larger career span than Makhachev and he has faced and defended his title against the greatest fighters, in contrast, Makhachev has defended his title only once.

In the ever-fluctuating journey of Jon Jones’s career, one encounters a roller coaster of accomplishments. Undoubtedly, he stands as the unparalleled titan within the formidable arena of the UFC. His records are a testament to unequivocal supremacy. Jones has defended his title on 11 occasions, squaring off against the best fighters in his division. Additionally, Jones has yet to be defeated by any fighter in the octagon.

On the other hand, Islam Makhachev is a rising star in the realm of UFC. being the current lightweight champion, Makhachev has defended his title only once and that too against Alexender Volkanovski. Hailing from the Dagestan, he’s trained under Khabib Nurmagomedov. He has also been very consistent and disciplined, avoiding any major setbacks or scandals in his career. Makhachev still has a long way to go to match Jones’ achievements, but he has the potential and the ambition to do so.
