Combat sports remain a contest of strong will, peak physical attributes, and a test of mental prowess. The apparent danger increases, especially in a steel cage where the fighters deploy unique skill sets. However, the MMA fights, which recently gained traction among fans, started as a contest with no rules prescribed. Besides, the MMA in particular, due to its nascent origin and development, still functions and borrows some unwritten codes of conduct from other similar sports. One such prevalent custom is touching gloves as soon as the fight commences. But, in a recent viral video, a fighter, instead of following the custom, jumped straight to the action and paid a heavy price.
Notably, in the video that made rounds on the internet, a fighter with smaller stature instead of touching the gloves resorted to a crafty route. However, the fighter regretted the decision as things went downhill, as his opponent caught him lacking. And what followed was a severe ground-and-pound punishment.

In the clip, the fans could witness two opponents with a stark difference in their build facing each other in the ring. While the larger opponent raised his glove for the long-held custom, the smaller opponent rushed in and attempted a flying knee KO.
Markedly, the attempt might be inspired by the UFC star Jorge Masvidal‘s flying knee KO of Ben Askren. But the tables turned on him as his opponent caught him in mid-air.
Subsequently, the clever fighter faced the bring of heavy ground-and-pound hitting. The beating followed a German suplex and continued till the referee separated both the fighters.
Despite the senseless beating, the crafty fighter didn’t lose his brash persona.
How did the fans react to the sudden turn of events after the bigger opponent assumes control?
While some fans called out the ‘coward’ act of the fighter, others pointed out the weight difference between the two.
One user commented, “He got taught a good lesson. Concentrate on your craft, not your craftyness.”

A fan in the responses referred to the time when UFC started as there existed no weight distinctions. Later on, the promotion introduced the weight divisions.
Thus, they wrote, “This takes me back to the first UFC fights when they had no weight-classes.”
