Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou – the fight that could have been. Starting from Jones leaving light heavyweight in 2020, Ngannou sent one call out after the other to the “greatest fighter of all time.” That fight didn’t happen because according to Dana White, “they both didn’t want that fight”. Other reports suggest that both fighters were demanding big paydays to face each other. In the end, that fight didn’t happen especially since Francis Ngannou left the UFC, while drawing the ire of Dana White. In the discussion of what-ifs, Stipe Miocic, who faced both men, gave his verdict on the dream matchup.
Having fought both Ngannou and Jones, the former 2-time heavyweight champion understands how both men approach their fights. There’s no doubting the power of the Cameroonian-Frenchman and Miocic has experienced that power, first-hand. But after facing Jones, Stipe Miocic believes that the number of legends ‘Bones’ has beaten in his entire career speaks volumes about how good he really is inside the Octagon. However, a small misjudgment against Ngannou could weigh very heavily on ‘Bones’.
“Well, Francis, yeah, you know, he’s got great power. He’s getting better every fight. With Jones, you know, he’s good as one of the best of all time if not the best of all time,” Stipe Miocic told The Schmo. “He’s [Jones] smart, real tricky, but Francis, he always comes with a good game plan but also he’s got thunder in his fist.”

A fight between two proven behemoths, Stipe Miocic finds it hard to pick a side between Jones Jones and Francis Ngannou. “That’s a tough fight, you know. I think Jon would keep his distance, do well, get him down on the ground. But if Francis connects, you know, [it’s] all over,” the former UFC champion added.

For all the drama that ensued between Jones, Ngannou, and the UFC, there was a belief that Dana White was looking to put on a fight between the current and former heavyweight champion. However, a recent revelation from a UFC legend contradicted that belief. Given that the consensus among fans is that it was ‘Bones’ who turned it down, that turns out to be false.

UFC legend clarifies rumors about Jon Jones turning down the fight against Francis Ngannou
Recently, Chael Sonnen revealed that contrary to popular belief, Jon Jones was actually looking to get that Francis Ngannou fight and even vacated the light heavyweight title to prepare for that super fight. However, there was a growing rift between Dana White and the former UFC heavyweight champion, and the CEO hesitated to announce that. And as we all know, the 55-year-old would then publicly bash Ngannou for not taking that fight after he departed from the promotion.
“I’m just sharing—it’s the same thing that you said about Sergei, but Jon accepted that fight. And it’s the same thing that many people, to this day, say about Jon and Francis. But that is fiction,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel.

‘The American Gangster’ added, “Jon never turned down a fight with Francis. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Jon gave a belt back, moved into the division, and tried to put on some size because he was hunting down Francis. That’s just the way it happened. We got to tell the story the way that it happened.”
Francis Ngannou’s current employer, PFL’s Donn Davis, wanted to book a cross-promotional fight between his promotion and the UFC to give fans the fight against Jon Jones. But Dana White wanted nothing to do with his rival promotion and bashed them publicly, suggesting him to “keep the UFC out of their mouth.” But what do you think? Will we ever get that fight?
