The co-main event at UFC 289 featuring Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush was a fight to remember for ages. The bout with title implications produced some mouth-watering action. While the Brazilian fighter wanted to add another win to his impressive record before, the American fighter craved his much-awaited title shot as both went to war on June 10, 2023, at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Further, the result of the closely contested battle might have presented a new title challenger to the current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

‘do Bronx’ earned an impressive stoppage victory in the first round as he rocked Dariush with his devastating striking prowess.
What transpired in the fight at UFC 289?
Dariush looked to extend his 8-win streak as he fought the most decorated finisher in the promotion history. The Brazilian fighter was on the cusp of reaching the coveted mark of 20 finish wins.
After falling apart on the previous two occasions, the fight underwent this time in Canadian territory as Oliveira initiated proceedings with a head kick. Dariush tried to execute the game plan chalked out by his team and successfully brought the fight to the canvas. The grappling fans had a delightful fight as both fighters found themselves tussling on the map right off the bat.
The potent core of the American fighter and his top position made the 33-year-old uncomfortable on the mat and traded blows. After spending the majority of the time on the ground, in a compromised position, he needed something spectacular to win the round back.
Oliveira freed himself from the clutches of Dariush and then returned the favor with a devastating head kick and then followed up with a barrage of powerful blows. Dariush never recovered from those blows, and the referee had to stop the fight in the first round. A right hook rocked Dariush and then Oliveira’s vicious ground-and-pound dashed Dariush’s title hopes.
With Oliveira’s latest win, the rematch between him and the lightweight champion is likely on the cards. The Russian champion responded to Oliveira’s victory by congratulating him but also pointed out there were still levels in the game.
He wrote, “Congrats Charles. But still there’s levels in this game 😎”
Several prominent MMA personalities and fans reacted to the state of affairs.

Congrats to Charles. If he could work on getting up sooner (like Aldo ) he would be really hard to beat. Islam is another animal on top. Doesn’t play the jits game and active on top. #ufc288
