Probably one of the most dominant fighters the UFC has seen in a while, Khabib Nuramgomedov really was unbeatable during his reign in the UFC Lightweight division. His rivalry with Conor McGregor is arguably one of UFC’s greatest. However, after his father passed away in 2020, Nuramgomedov decided to retire from the UFC.

His last fight was against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Gaethje put up a great fight but Nurmagomedov left the UFC as he had entered it – undefeated. Since then, people have been wondering if Nurmagomedov will come back to the UFC and if so, when. However, ‘The Eagle’ made it abundantly clear that he has no intentions of returning to the Octagon. However, the Eagle still manages to make headlines, as this time in a recent podcast appearance he shared his thoughts on Michael Jordan.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was a guest on the PBD podcast recently, where the question that is on everyone’s mind, was asked. The interviewer referenced Michael Jordan’s Netflix documentary which has been quite popular recently. In this documentary, the NBA legend had won three NBA titles, back-to-back. However, when his father passed away, Jordan retired, only to come back to the NBA, stronger and better. He went on to win three consecutive NBA titles, again.

Talking about a particular heart-warming scene in an episode of the Netflix docuseries, the interviewer asked ‘The Eagle’ if he had any thoughts of coming back to the UFC.

First of all, I am not Michael Jordan, and of course, I watch this documentary, and it’s like best ever. I ever watch. I don’t know like… I think many people here they don’t watch this because there is a lot of business people you know… It’s like they all talk about money.“, he started. “And about Michael Jordan, I think like this episode, like this – this moment… It’s really touched my heart. It’s really touched my heart and no… I don’t think so.“, concluded Khabib Nuramgomedov.

The interviewer asked him why, to which ‘The Eagle’ replied, saying, “Because… [takes a long pause] I don’t know. Lot of things. A lot of things. A lot of things come to my mind, you know, like… first of all, because of my mother, and… but I don’t think so.“. Not one to let it slide, the interviewer brought up the fact that Khabib Nurmagomedov said that he wasn’t Michael Jordan and asked him what he meant by that.

However, it seems this dream match won’t see the light of day – yet. For now, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s legacy will live on through the current division champ and his protege, Islam Makhachev. He is preparing to fight Charles Oliveira for a title defense at UFC 280.
