It’s certainly not a great time to be an Arman Tsarukyan fan after he missed out on the biggest fight of his life. In the aftermath of UFC 311, Dana White asserted that he is not going to consider putting ‘Ahalkalakets’ back into title contention immediately on his return. Some people may not agree with the CEO’s decision, but MMA legend and verbose analyst Chael Sonnen appears to be in favor of the head honcho.
It’s true that whenever a pay-per-view turns out to be a good one, the credit often goes to White and his team. Similarly, when a plan falters, the world goes all guns blazing on the UFC CEO more than his fighters. Also, there’s always a lot of money riding on these events, and according to Chael Sonnen, White may not want to make another gamble and that’s the reason why he’s hesitating to place Arman Tsarukyan in the title scene once again.
“If Dana was to just go rebook this match [Islam vs. Arman]… everything’s the same – same weight, same placement in the main event, same title on the line and he lost it. Could you imagine? It’s now not a debate. It’s now not on Tsarukyan vs the field, it’s on Dana,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel. “He’s already been burned once, he put millions of dollars into the promotion of a match. He made a good-faith effort to follow through with that match.”

For context, White once tried to put together one of the biggest fights between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson during their prime. And he faced setbacks on five separate occasions. This time around, the head honcho only made a single attempt to book Arman Tsarukyan vs. Islam Makhachev, which didn’t work out, but if he tries to do that again, Sonnen believes he’ll seem like an ignoramus. “Whoever is at fault in the scenario, by the way, it’s not Dana, but it would be if that happened a second time.” ‘The American Gangster’ added.

Well, it seems like the rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan may not happen anytime soon, and Tsarukyan seems cool with that. He wants to make his climb back, and for that, he wants a different rematch.
Arman Tsarukyan wants a cracking showdown against Charles Oliveira
Apart from Arman Tsarukyan, Charles Oliveira has also emerged as a possible title contender after his win over Michael Chandler at UFC 309. Now that the Armenian star won’t be getting his shot, it’s ‘Do Bronx’ who’s the favorite to fight Islam Makhachev in a rematch. However, Tsarukyan claims that it would be more logical for him to fight Oliveira to earn his way back into the mix.

“I don’t know how much more they want me to fight to be the No. 1 contender again. But I know I’m the best in the division. If it’s Oliveira, this fight makes sense because I beat him,” Arman Tsarukyan stated on the ‘JAXXON Podcast’. Well, it’s only a matter of time before we see what Dana White decides to do since Islam Makhachev has suggested that he might return for his next fight around International Fight Week.
