Conor McGregor is indeed one of the most wanted fighters in the MMA community. With his star factor dealing the cards, fighting McGregor does ensure a hefty paycheck and a houseful arena. However, there are a few things that the world of mixed martial arts didn’t know about the Irish fighter. And it was Ali Abdelaziz who revealed those secrets.

Abdelaziz appeared on Submission Radio on 7th October 2024 and talked about the impressive KO that Alex Pereira showcased at UFC 307. But soon, the conversation shifted to Conor McGregor. He claimed that the Irish mixed martial artist cancels his fights if his opponent talks trash to him on social media. Well, according to Abdelaziz, that was exactly what happened between Justin Gaethje and McGregor.
The Dagestani team’s manager said, “The last five, six years we offered Justin Gaehtje [to fight Conor McGregor] so many times. Never once, never once, this man—Even the UFC, told me this, ‘Hey, leave him alone. Don’t talk with him. He doesn’t like to fight people who talk bad to him on the internet.’ I promise you, he likes to be the one to start the talk and you retaliate.”
Abdelaziz then pointed out that it was the same reason why Michael Chandler behaved nicely with ‘The Notorious’. Apparently, it was because the MMA promotion asked him to refrain from bad-mouthing Conor McGregor. The manager continued, “Why do you think [Michael] Chandler being so nice to him? Why? Because he was being told not to talk bad to Conor. Conor has to start talking bad and he talk bad back. He’s a weak mental midget. He’s soft like a marshmallow. And he’s a no-good, son of a bitch. This is what he is.”

Abdelaziz then moved on to the time when McGregor began his feud with Khabib Nurmagomedov. This fight was indeed one of the few that helped garner a huge audience and attracted new fans to the sport. The victory, however, went to Nurmagomedov, as he executed a successful rear naked choke in the 4th round of their fight. Despite the defeat, the bout boosted McGregor’s popularity even higher. No wonder, fighting the Irishman comes with easy money. And as far as talks about his return are concerned, Abdelaziz believes that Justin Gaethje would be the perfect matchup for the Dubliner.

During a previous conversation with TMZ Sports, Abdelaziz reflected on McGregor’s next opponent. The manager said, “Listen I think this guy is. I personally don’t think he ever gonna fight again. But it’s a fight out there. He’s always been looming. If he decides to fight again, and I think he can fight Gaethje. Gaethje doesn’t have a fight. They don’t have a fight.”
While the ‘Mystic Mac’ was previously scheduled to land against Chandler and conclude TUF 31 at UFC 303, he was forced to pull out of the bout due to a broken pinky toe. Later on, Chandler revealed that he didn’t want to wait for the Irish fighter and took on a fight against Charles Oliveira. The duo will surely entertain the fighting community at the co-main event of UFC 309.

And as far as McGregor is concerned, he was left in utter disbelief when he found out that his opponent was already preparing to fight someone else. Nevertheless, Chandler did confirm that he would be the first fighter to go up against ‘The Notorious’ when he returns. After all, he does have 2 fights left in his contract.
