For as good as Colby Covington is with his skills in fighting, and running his mouth, he failed to realize his dream of becoming an All-American UFC champion despite repeated attempts at the title. Each time he fought, he fought hard for five rounds, albeit getting finished and having his jaw broken in one of those fights, and came up short every single time. We can’t factor luck here, or a lack there of it, because ‘Chaos’ put himself in prime position for those fights by talking a big game. He even backed his words up by taking it to his opponents but the title wins remained just out of reach. Now, divisional champ Belal Muhammad has come forth, adding salt to Covington’s (metaphorical) open wounds.

While having a conversation with MMAJunkie, the welterweight champion of the world, Belal Muhammad took some nasty shots at Colby Covington, “He’s a joke.” ‘Remember The Name’ said, before continuing, “What is he, 0-3 in title fights? All I needed was one time to do it. You’ll never touch the gold. You’ll never be who I am. Just keep talking, brother. You said keep that same energy when I see you. Please. I beg you. Let me see. I beg you.”

Muhammad further doubled down on his quotes as he stated, “Let me see you in public because unless he actually fights other guys, he’s not going to get another shot. I hope he goes on a good run and beats some of these contenders and figures a way out to fight me in the cage. But all you’ve got to do is find me at a steakhouse and we’ll see if you keep that same energy.”

While Covington never captured gold in his two fights against Kamaru Usman, and one against Leon Edwards, he did claim the interim welterweight title in 2018 after beating Rafael dos Anjos. However, he was stripped of the title due to an injury, where Darren Till went on to face Tyson Woodley for the then-undisputed welterweight belt.

Colby Covington has expressed his willingness to fight Belal Muhammad but the champion appears to have no interest in taking on the All-American fighter. ‘Remember The Name’ was supposed to defend his title against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310, but a sudden bone infection had him pull out of the fight. ‘Nomad’ will now face Ian Garry for the number one contender status in the co-main event of December’s PPV. As the welterweight division carries on with or without Colby Covington, where does it put the former interim welterweight champ?

It has been͏ a year since͏ Colby Covington la͏st f͏ought. T͏he͏ for͏m͏er interim welterwe͏ight champion suff͏er͏ed a humiliating defeat when Leon Edw͏ards completely dominated h͏im, even in the w͏restling department, which Covington is known for. Following that loss͏, Covington took͏ an extended bre͏ak and will now retur͏n to the Oc͏tagon͏ against Joaquin Buckl͏ey at UF͏C Tampa͏. ͏Not͏abl͏y, Covi͏ngton declined to figh͏t ͏Ian Garry back in April when ͏”The Future” challe͏nged him.

The bout against Joaquin Buckley is a crucial fight for the #6-ranked Colby Covington as a defeat here would mean him slipping further down the rankings. It must be noted that Buckl͏ey is undefeated in the welterweight division going into this fight, so this isn’t going to be an easy fight for ‘Chaos’. “He will argue that he wasn’t knocked out, that he wasn’t finished, and he’s right. He wasn’t knocked out unconscious. I really feel like for me, though, and the style that I bring, we’re two types of fighters who want to take the middle of the cage and really impose our will,” said Buckley.

He further added, “I really feel like [there] wouldn’t be no arguments once I go out there and put on a dominant performance on Colby Covington. It’s just, yet again: Why not give me an opportunity to fight for the title?”. Buckley is clearly eyeing the title, so it would be immensely difficult for ‘Chaos’ to contain the young surging talent.
