When talking of music and going through an America’s Got Talent audition clip, Jelly Roll remembers the audition of an 18-year-old Hawaiian kid named Iam Tongi, who covered ‘Monsters’ by James Blunt on American Idol. In describing the contestant, Roll said, “He’s got the.. like deep Hawaiian voice”. He went on to talk about the contestant’s story of how he lost his father a few months back. Then, describing his singing, Roll said, “It’s angelic.”
The video clipping of the audition played and by the end, Joe Rogan choked up. As his eyes welled up,
Jelly Roll said, “How crazy is that Joe? I’m sorry I did that to us man!” fighting to hold back tears. “Holy s**t! That’s so good.” said an emotional Rogan, wiping his tears. “He’s 18? Holy s**t is he good!” said the podcast host in utter disbelief.
It takes a while before Rogan gets a hold of himself. He says, “That’s authentic, you can’t fake that – there’s no faking that. Oh my god it tells you a story – takes you to a place. Oh my god – and you know it’s coming from him” continued Rogan, still unable to believe his ears.
Impressed with the 18-year-old Hawaiian kid’s voice, Rogan added, “Its like you see a person with a beautiful voice and you know there’s some. Theres some good in you. Whatever you are, if you can make a song that makes everyone happy, they’ll look past so much!”
