Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko is arguably one of the deadliest female strikers in the UFC. She performed brilliantly in the co-main event of UFC 275 against Taila Santos. But Shevchenko didn’t perform her trademark dance after securing the victory. She later revealed the reason for this.
In the post-fight interview, a reporter asked Shevchenko why she did not dance after winning. To everyone’s surprise, there was a big reason behind this.

Shevchenko answered by saying, “Coming into the fight, I was injured. My foot was injured. And all week, fight week, the UFC Performance Institute physical therapist was working on my foot to get it back into the best shape.”

She added, “A few kicks that I [threw] that were super strong it injured my foot. That’s why I kind of like… I was willing to dance, but I don’t know. We will have to do x-ray, I hope it’s nothing serious that could delay my return to the Octagon. But this is the reason why I didn’t dance.”
She also mentioned that she considered pulling out of the fight. She explained how she tried to ignore it and just go ahead with fighting. But apparently, the injury was so grave that she couldn’t walk on the foot nor jump on it. She also thanked her physical therapists, who made her feel better so that she wouldn’t pull out of the fight.

The co-main event for UFC Singapore was action-packed and had the fans at the edge of their seats.

This fight would be Shevchenko’s seventh title defense in the women’s flyweight division. Taila Santos was the clear underdog and shocked the fans as she made the fight closer than expected. She utilized her grappling skills to control Shevchenko on the ground. She even attempted to submit Shevchenko thrice.

Shevchenko weathered the storm and dominated the striking exchanges, keeping Santos at bay. She used her hook as a counter throughout the fight. She also used punching combinations to inflict damage on Santos. The fight was close, but Shevchenko came out on top after winning by decision.
