UFC flyweight Katlyn Chookagian has had some great UFC bouts. She fought four times in 2020 and just once in 2021. Now, she has had a great start this year. She faced Jennifer Maia at the UFC Vegas 46 event and won through a unanimous decision. As a result, she is on a three-fight winning streak currently.
However, her fight against Maia was the last on her contract. After her third consecutive win, the fighter expressed her desire to fight for the UFC under a new contract.
During the post-fight press conference, she said, “This was my last fight on my contract and usually when you have one more, they renegotiate your contract but they. So when they offered this fight I was like ‘oh I’m up for renegotiation for a new contract’ and they were like ‘oh no, you know we want you to fight this contract, this fight out’. So, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to cut me, but it’s usually not good news.”

Later on, Dana White gave an update on the matter. He said (h/t MMA Fighting), “I know that we went into this fight with her contract. It’s expired now. She’s a free agent right now. I don’t know. That was between her and Mick [Maynard]. He did that deal with her. So we’ll see what happens.”
After three great fights and being the division’s second-ranked fighter, ideally, Chookagian would have been eyeing the title. Only Jessica Andrade and Valentina Shevchenko are ranked higher than Chookagian and she would have hoped to challenge for the title soon.

Chookagian was hoping to stay with the UFC. While the reason behind the UFC letting her go is not known, there would be several promotions interested in her.
In the same post-fight interview, ‘Blonde Fighter’ had mentioned that she will keep fighting regardless of the UFC negotiating a contract with her. So it looks like she is open to looking towards other promotions like Bellator MMA and PFL.
