Henry Cejudo Calls Cory Sandhagen the Second Best UFC Bantamweight, Reveals the Gameplan To Beat Him

‘The Messenger’ Henry Cejudo announced his retirement from the UFC in 2020 after he defeated Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 to retain his belt. However, Cejudo, who is currently enjoying retirement, hasn’t stopped training and is currently with Bellator MMA’s Pitbull brothers.

Last September, he trained with UFC middleweight ‘Borrachinha’ Paulo Costa. So, it’s fair to say despite not being an active fighter, ‘The Messenger’ hasn’t totally shifted his attention from the game. He has kept himself occupied and had some assessments on his former division, the 135lbs.

One fighter from the stacked bantamweight division that caught Cejudo’s attention was Cory Sandhagen. When asked by The Schmo if he was impressed with Sandhagen, Cejudo replied, “He’s probably in my opinion, probably the best 135 pounds other than me, but he just had to learn how to bring the fight to Sandhagen. He’s got to bring the fight that said you cannot give that kid space. He’s extremely dangerous.”

‘Triple-C‘ added, “He’s got talent, but if you don’t bring the fight, he’s gonna get you because the one thing that he does know very well and that’s distance and his composure, which is you know, which is the things that I look at when I watch a fighter.”

Sandhagen provided probably the best performance of his career recently as he knocked out Frankie Edgar with a flying knee in 28 seconds.

Will Henry Cejudo ever fight again in the UFC?

Despite being a two-division world champion in the UFC and a former Olympic gold medalist, Cejudo doesn’t have too much mileage on him as a fighter. And at only 34, he is certainly still a problem for the current UFC roster. One can still claim that he is still the best bantamweight or flyweight on the planet.

So it’s only fitting that he competes again inside the Octagon. The need for rest is understandable for him, as the sport is taxing to an athlete’s body. But, the man who never lost his belts can return when he wants and will be welcomed by the promotion with open arms.
