Henry Cejudo almost got into a fight at the Olympics and Kamaru Usman cannot believe against whom! The former Olympics gold medallist and two-division UFC champion on his ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast with Usman revealed that he had a run-in with a UFC superstar, who almost beat him up. While Usman guessed Colby Covington or Tyrone Woodley as the likely culprits, he was shocked to learn that it was middleweight star and his UFC 294 foe, Khamzat Chimaev. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ didn’t understand why the UAE citizen chose to pick a fight with Cejudo, since they do not have any feud, nor any history of animosity.
Cejudo pointed out that Chimaev’s displeasure may have something to do with the criticism and unfavorable remarks he had made about ‘Borz’ on their podcast. Not to mention the former champ had been vocal and loud in his support for Usman going into his fight with Chimaev last year.
“I don’t know, I think these dudes take sh** so personal. I think obviously me cheering for you me cheering for Borrachina [Paulo Costa], me kind of telling the truth [about Chimaev on the podcast]… He was at the ticket line [at the Olympics], I was outside trying to get my damn tickets because everything was sold out, I think,” Cejudo said on ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast.

The former Olympian painted the scene for Usman and the audience, revealing that despite the Emirati’s provocations he didn’t take the bait and got out of there. Why? Well, because Chimaev had about six guys with him and Cejudo was there with only his coach, Eric Albarracin. Not wanting to play the hero and risk getting beat up publicly, Cejudo did the smart thing and got out of there before things could escalate.
“And then he sees me, he’s like ‘Henry Cejudo, you’re a rat piece of sh**.’ And then I kind of had a feeling this dude kind of had a [grudge against me] because he’s blocked me from a lot of the social media… He was with like six dudes and it was just me outside with freaking Captain Eric with his sparkly shirts and pants and so anyway I just left… I was just like ‘dude there’s too many of you guys, man,'” ‘Triple C’ added.
While Chimaev may indeed have come under a lot of criticism recently, he has the opportunity to turn the narrative surrounding him.

Khamzat Chimaev set to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 308
Khamzat Chimaev hasn’t fought since his controversial UFC 294 majority decision win over Kamaru Usman last October. ‘Borz’, of course, was scheduled to face resurgent former champ Robert Whittaker on UFC Saudi Arabia in June, but had to pull out weeks before the fight because of a ‘violent’ illness. His persistent health issues, which seem to have started after he got Covid in late 2020, have derailed his career.
The Chechen had to refuse a middleweight title shot this January because of health issues, not to mention the historic fight against Whittaker on the UFC’s first-ever Saudi card, a win which could have seen him be the next in line for a title shot. Henry Cejudo, too, has been critical of Chimaev over this issue and may be one of the reasons ‘Borz’ seemingly hates him now.

However, in good news for Chimaev fans, he is back on track and will fight Whittaker on the UFC 308 card in October. Since ‘The Reaper’ faced and knocked out Ikram Aliskerov, who replaced ‘Borz’ on the Saudi card, Whittaker is even further in the title picture. This, of course, means that Chimaev has not lost his place in the division, and will still be a front-runner for a title shot if he manages to get over the former champion. If that is, Chimaev shows up to the fight.
