Welterweight fighter Ian Garry is on a 12-win streak with no losses to his name. The fighter is one of the best in the division and recently secured a dramatic win over Song Kenan at UFC 285. The top of the division has been getting a lot of attention thanks to the division champion Leon Edwards and two of his possible opponents, Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

However, ‘Rank 8’ Welterweight fighter Ian Garry has something else to deal with at hand. Joaquin Buckley, who recently won against Andre Fialho at UFC Fight Night, is looking for a fight against Garry. However, Garry doesn’t seem to be giving this much attention and is seen outright rejecting the idea of a fight against Buckley.

Ben ‘The Bane’ Davis recently Tweeted a video where Ian Garry and Joaquin Buckley were seen engaging in a heated conversation. The crux of the matter was Buckley wanting to fight Garry with him discarding the suggestion altogether.

You’re not ranked. You were offered to fight a ranked guy. You didn’t… you said ‘No.’ Right? Then, you start wanting to fight me. You’re in this now. You’re in this now. Right? I’m fighting #8 in the world, why would I look down when I’m going this way (pointing up)?” asked Garry, in an over-the-top fashion.

Calling out Buckley, he said, “You should be calling me out. Because I’m up there. That’s the right thing. But why would I go backward when I’m trying to be the best in the world?“, stating that he wasn’t ready to fight anybody lower than him in rank.

To this, Buckley replied, saying, “Because I got a name.“.

I don’t give a f**k if you got a name. If your ranking’s not higher than mine, nothing to do with me.“, said Garry, shutting down Buckley’s hopes for a fight.

Fans On The Fence – Not everyone agrees with Ian Garry

Ian Garry ridiculed Joaquin Buckley when he asked for a title shot saying that he wouldn’t fight anyone who’s below him with respect to rankings, since he is on his way up. Some fans supported their favorite Garry, while some criticized his thought process. Others attack Buckley.

All Buckley can do is sit there and take it 😭😭😭“, “Did Buckley try to say he has a name?? Lol. Dude lands one kick and thinks he’s a draw 🤣🤣“, and “Buckley fans are down bad” – these were some of the comments against Buckley on that thread.

Complimenting Ian Garry as a person, fans commented things like, “Ian Garry is a very likable guy“, and “He’s the nicest guy. His wife works for karate combat and he’s the jolliest man during fight weeks“.

However, there were people who questioned Garry’s line of thought and pointed out the thing that was intrinsically wrong with it. “I cannot stand fighters saying they’re only looking to fight up in rankings…on that basis, why should your desired opponent agree to fight down against you?“, commented one fan, while another said, “Funny if the guys ranked ahead of him thought the same way he’d never move up in the rankings“.

One fan, rooting for Joaquin Buckley, said, “Buckley would decimate Ian“.
