From cage fighting to becoming a businessman, and now Conor McGregor could see himself running for office. ‘The Notorious’ was a guest at the Oval Office on St. Patrick’s Day, where he delivered a brief speech about his political ambition. “The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill? Any other Presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will,” McGregor wrote on Instagram. But what does Dana White think about his new endeavor?

Conor McGregor has repeatedly mentioned that he’s got a couple of fights left on his UFC contract. As we all know, Dana White does not allow his fighters to compete or participate elsewhere while under contract. So does that include political ambitions, too? Well, it seems like the UFC CEO has no issues with McGregor deciding to run for office, according to Dave Shaw, who spoke on the White’s behalf.

First of all, Dave Shaw, during the UFC London post-fight presser, was a bit overwhelmed and lost for words about how he’d react to Conor McGregor’s political ambitions. “I don’t know. I’m not really sure what to say about that one,” said the UFC Senior VP of International Operations and Content. However, Shaw claims to have gone through the whole speech that McGregor gave during his visit to the White House, and, taking that into account, Shaw has confidence that ‘The Notorious’ can easily pull that off.

“I think he’d do a great job. He seems very passionate, you know. He had a very passionate speech at the White House and raised a number of very important topics, and let’s just see what people think,” Dave Shaw added.

Well, there’s been many combat sports athletes who’ve dived into the political realm. UFC’s Tito Ortiz was the Mayor Pro Tempore of Huntington Beach back in 2020. However, nobody has managed to become the leader of a nation. But Conor McGregor seems very serious about it, so let’s take a look if he’d fit the criteria.

Can Conor McGregor become Ireland’s President?

At 36 years old, Conor McGregor could be the youngest candidate to ever run for the Office of the President, however, he doesn’t really have any political history. Furthermore, to even get considered as a candidate for the elections, ‘The Notorious’ will have to obtain the support of a minimum of at least 20 Senate members, or Oireachtas in Ireland. Otherwise, McGregor would require at least four local authorities to support him.
