Fight fans have only one demand from UFC’s heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones, who has been riding a wave of success since his dominant title defense against former champion Stipe Miocic last month. Since then, the anticipation has grown for what is expected to be the most awaited heavyweight clash in MMA history: a unification title fight between ‘Bones’ and interim champion Tom Aspinall, who has been targeting the title since last year.

Even though a year has passed, the fight fans, along with fellow UFC fighters, are growing impatient with the delay in witnessing the unification fight. Among them is ranked #4 light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz, who recently shared his eagerness to see Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall in his latest interview with James Lynch on the Home of Fight’s YouTube channel. Blachowicz said, “I’m waiting for Jones against Aspinall, you know. I want to see this fight. Yeah, I hope so. He will not escape, and he will not do everything to avoid fighting us, you know.”

To gauge Blachowicz’s enthusiasm, host Lynch asked him if he thought the fight was in the making. While aware of the uncertainty surrounding Jones, Blachowicz expressed some doubt. However, the former 205lbs champ did not shy away from predicting the outcome of the fight when the host asked, “Where do you stand on that if they were to fight?” Without hesitation, the Polish juggernaut backed Tom Aspinall, confidently stating, “Aspinall.” He then reinforced his stance in the Jones vs. Aspinall debate, delivering a bold prediction that the interim champ would knockout Bones.

Since the conclusion of UFC 309, Jones has faced mounting pressure from fans and even Dana White. The New York native has stated that he would only agree to fight Tom Aspinall under one condition: “f-ck you money.” Despite this, there has been no official confirmation from the UFC. However, last month, Jones hinted on his social media that the highly anticipated heavyweight clash against unification bout could be in the works for next year. He said, “There is [a dollar amount in mind], but I’m not going to discuss that publicly. We’ll just have to wait and see… I will be competing in 2025, more than likely.”

The promotion has not yet confirmed a date for the fight. However, Dana White recently gave an update on the Jon Jones vs. Aspinall situation at the UFC’s final event of 2024. Keep reading to find out what he had to say.

Dana White seals the deal on Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall

Throughout 2024, UFC head honcho Dana White faced heavy criticism in relation to his alleged favoritism toward ‘Bones’. As the world knows, White’s admiration for Jones sparked accusations from fans who claimed he was protecting the reigning champion’s legacy from the much younger and more dangerous Tom Aspinall. This led the head honcho to announce at the UFC 309 press conference, “If Jon Jones wants to fight again after Saturday night, he will fight Tom Aspinall.”

Despite Jon Jones expressing a lack of interest in facing the Englishman, preferring instead to take on his same-age rival Alex Pereira, White initially shut down that suggestion, dismissing it with a firm “no f-cking way.” However, months passed following UFC 309, and the future of the highly anticipated ‘Bones’ vs. Aspinall fight remained uncertain. That was until yesterday, after the UFC Tampa event, when the UFC CEO, speaking at the post-fight press conference, assured fans with a “100%” guarantee that the fight would take place in 2025.

White went on to say, “Yeah, I’ll say 100 percent [guaranteed]. 100 percent [it’s a priority]. I think it’s probably the biggest fight in heavyweight history, and it’s a massive fight in the history of the company, too. It’s a big fight.” How do you see the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight unfolding?
