UFC flyweight kingpin Deiveson Figueiredo has had a 2020 like no other fighter in the UFC roster. He fought 4 times last year, winning 3 and ending the year with a draw against Brandon Moreno. His fight against Moreno has been considered as one of the greatest flyweight bouts in UFC history.
It is touted that Figueiredo will rematch Moreno in his next outing in 2021, but the Brazilian has bigger plans for the year ahead. He is looking to set up a potential clash against “The Messenger” Henry Cejudo.

“I won the [UFC flyweight] belt in 2020 and successfully defended it for the first time I also broke a record, fighting again 21 days after a title defense. Having to defend a belt again 21 days later, making history in the UFC. I’m winning bonuses in every fight I have, so I don’t play around. I get in there to put on a show, I get in there for the knockout,” the champion started in an interview with MMAFighting.
“I just had a rough fight with Brandon Moreno. Looking back at the fight, I thought I won all the rounds, but, unfortunately, they had it a draw. I’ll train for the second fight now, you can be sure I’ll catch this guy in the second fight,” he continued.
Figueiredo and Moreno went through a war at UFC 256. Both fighters landed some heavy shots and could have finished the fight potentially. But the championship heart was on full display on each side, as neither party was willing to retreat. The fact that the champion Figueiredo had to be hospitalized a day before the fight, makes his showing even more impressive.
“A guy that puts on a show, puts on exciting fights, bloody fights. I am this guy. And I want to thank the love, thanks everyone that picked me as Fighter Of The Year. I am very happy,” said Figueiredo.

Figueiredo wants to fight former two-division champion Henry Cejudo for the BMF belt at a new weight class. He feels like he should be the one to welcome the former champion back out of retirement.
Triple C announced retirement after successfully defending his bantamweight throne against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Cejudo believes he has achieved everything in combat sports and wants to enjoy his off time.
“I want to start 2021 fighting for the BMF belt against Henry Cejudo. He talks too much, and I am ready to stop him, to shut this guy’s mouth. I can’t wait to make this fight happen in 2021. To fight for the BMF belt. I’m ready and I want this fight,” he added.
