Dustin Poirier, the former UFC interim lightweight champion, is unquestionably succeeding in the MMA world. A fellow fighter of Poirier, Beneil Dariush, provides some advice for him regarding his current outlook. Poirier is currently ranked second among lightweights in the UFC. Dariush advises Poirier to think about retirement if he is unwilling to compete against the best UFC fighters. Poirier’s refusal to engage in a fight with Dariush had already made him furious. ‘The Diamond’ claimed that the reason for his reluctance was that the idea of him and Dariush fighting each other didn’t excite him. Nevertheless, with eight victories in a row, Dariush is currently having a tremendous career as a fighter. The 33-year-old lightweight was talking in an interview with ‘The Schmo’ when he finally decided to school Poirier.
Baniel Dariush responds to Poirier
The interviewer asked Dariush who he is going to fight next, whether it is Dustin Poirier or Charles Oliveira. The fighter responded, “Definitely not Dustin because we asked for that fight and then … it was turned down because he ended up fighting somebody else, and then we asked for it again. He actually in public even said he’s not interested. So it is what it is. You know I’ve kind of given my opinion. I think if he doesn’t really want to fight top guys, he should really consider retiring. Fighting is not a fun sport to do if you’re not motivated and if you don’t want to fight the best guys.”

He continued by explaining how annoying Poirier’s attitude was.
In November 2022, ‘The Diamond’ defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 281. He used a rear naked choke to finish Chandler, cementing his place among the top five lightweight competitors. After this impressive victory, Poirier was asked if the audience could anticipate ‘The Diamond’ and Dariush facing off next. The conflict was actually started by his response to the query. He claimed he was seeking someone exciting and that he was not at all interested in fighting Dariush.

Does Dariush have better opponents?
While Dariush is not happy with Poirier’s response, he seems to look forward to better things.

Hw is, nevertheless, feeling really upbeat at this time about his future. He is optimistic that everything will work out for the best. The 33-year-old is certain that he wants to compete for the title, but not as Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski‘s alternate. Dariush is pretty confident that he will do great in coming bouts even if he doesn’t get the chance to compete for the title anytime soon, but that is one of the uncertainties that he must deal with for the time being.
