Nate Diaz was probably one of the biggest names in the UFC. Adored fan favorites, to say the least, Nate Diaz and his brother Nick Diaz have a cult following and a very loyal fan base. Their carefree attitude and brawler style of fighting are something the fans can’t get enough of. However, despite being a fan favorite, Nate’s paycheck didn’t seem to show the same story.

The UFC has come under fire for low fighter pay several times over the years. Was Nate Diaz one fighter who got paid less than what he was bringing to the table?

Fighters have always complained about the UFC not paying them enough for their fights. However, no one expected it to be this bad. Despite being the biggest MMA promotion, the UFC’s pay to their top stars has surprised fans all around.

Luke Thomas, in a recent tweet, showed Nate Diaz’s earnings from the UFC. It stated, “The biggest purses are much easier to determine on the sheet, but we only have these few figures for Nate Diaz because he sadly didn’t really get paid much before that. Very few people go past 20 UFC fights, but for his 21st bout, Diaz was still on a publicly reported $20,000/$20,000 contract.”

Nate Diaz has sadly not been paid enough in spite of being a fan favorite. The Stockton native had 28 fights in the UFC. However, for the first 20 fights, Diaz was paid quite less than what his fights brought to the plate. He was on a 20k/20k contract. Sadly, after all formalities, which include taxes, gym fees, manager fees, etc, Nate Diaz would have been hardly left with pocket change.

However, that all changed after his fight with Conor McGregor. Both of his fights with McGregor stand at the top 10 highest-selling PPVs in UFC history. The first fight sold 1.5 million PPV, and the second sold 1.65 million. The second fight ranks in the top 3 highest-selling PPVs.

Despite Diaz barely getting paid in the first half of his career, he did get paid what he deserved towards the end of his career. He has now exited from the UFC but, it’s not certain if we’ll see him return inside the octagon.
