“He Needs to Come in Khabib Style…”: Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Coach Lays Bare a Blueprint for Michael Chandler for Beating “Scumbag” Conor McGregor

The MMA world is eagerly waiting for the comeback of UFC superstar Conor McGregor. Many believe that the Irishman will make his grand return to the world’s biggest MMA promotion at UFC 296, which is set to take place on December 16. When McGregor returns, he will first lock horns against his TUF 31 rival coach, Michael Chandler. However, the UFC has not officially confirmed the date and venue of the bout between the two. Ever since the rumors about the fight between ‘Iron’ and ‘The Notorious’ began to circulate, many took the side of their favorite fighters.

Surprisingly, Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s coach, Javier Mendez, believes that Chandler has the potential to win against the former UFC double champion. Nonetheless, it’s not going to be an easy task as Chandler has to adopt the “Khabib style.” He also gives a detailed blueprint for the former three-time Bellator lightweight champion to defeat McGregor.

A blueprint for Michael Chandler

 Javier Mendez was talking in the Lordping opinions. During the interview, he detailed his take on the bout between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. Nurmagomedov’s coach believed that ‘Iron’ could win over McGregor only when he chose Nurmagomedov’s style. He said, “Chandler brings war every time but I don’t think this is the right type of fight for him. He needs to come in Khabib style, that’s the way to go with Conor. Basically shoot, shoot, shoot, punch. Never let him settle. Always let him know you’re going to take him down so he doesn’t settle, so he doesn’t get comfortable on his feet.” 

During the same interview, Mendez also mentioned that McGregor might win the bout. According to the coach, Chandler is someone who mainly focuses on entertaining the crowd. On the other hand, McGregor is a sharpshooter who would make use of the opportunity and defeat Chandler. Even after McGregor being the biggest rival of Nurmagomedov, the latter’s coach believed that McGregor might win the bout if Chandler didn’t use the techniques of ‘The Eagle.’

While talking about the upcoming showdown between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, Mendez gave advice to ‘Iron.’ He said that McGregor can cross all the boundaries and trash talk that can affect his opponent so badly. Hence, he advises Chandler not to get upset over what McGregor says.

The coach advised Khabib Nurmagomedov the same way. While the Dagestani fighter was preparing for a showdown against McGregor, Mendez advised him not to get upset even if he dragged Nurmagomedov’s family, country, and religion while trash-talking. Mendez said, “If you’re a scumbag fighter you come after those things and you shouldn’t.” The coach makes it clear that it’s acceptable if McGregor trash talks about his opponent, but badmouthing his family, country, and religion is totally unacceptable.
