Who will be the next UFC light heavyweight champion? Well, this doubt surely reflects the dubiousness of the fans across the MMA world. The division is now without a champion since the previous champion, Jamahal Hill, gave up the belt due to a severe Achilles injury. Also, the search is still on for the combatants who will vie for the esteemed title. But the co-main event of UFC 291 showcased Alex Pereira, who became the popular pick as he defeated a boss player in the form of Jan Blachowicz.

Well, Pereira again got cherry-picked by a UFC legend, as he had a lot to discuss his light heavyweight future. Former heavyweight champion and current MMA pundit Daniel Cormier got deep into why he considers Pereira the next light heavyweight championship contender.

There could be no better platform for the UFC talking heads than YouTube, where they don’t lollygag but come straight to the point. Cormier did the same as he shot the breeze on Alex Pereira’s bright future on his YouTube channel. He talked about how the former middleweight champion had everything it had to dominate the light heavyweight division.

Elaborating on his thoughts, he said, “He had made as big an impact as we have seen for a long time. The way he was received tonight guys was the welcoming of a champion or someone who has been to the top of the sport. Alex Pereira deserved his applause, and he deserves his flowers for beating Jan Blachowicz and Jan Blachowicz, that was prepared to earn another championship opportunity.”

He further hailed Pereira as he added, “Hats off to the former champion, Poatan. He moves into what will be a championship fight at light heavyweight. And with the right matchup, you could be talking about who, in like three years, will have held the UFC middleweight title and the UFC light heavyweight title.”

Cormier seemed to be in Pereira’s corner with a generous amount of praise. He believed ‘Poatan’ had the potential to be the top gun for the light heavyweight title. Additionally, considering Pereira’s triumph over Blachowicz, he thought Pereira was one step closer to the title. But what led Cormier to speak so much about Pereira? Obviously! His recent triumph over Jan Blachowicz, and that too in a brand new division.

What did the fight have in store for the fans?

At UFC 291’s co-main event, both fighters aimed to secure a clean victory. As soon as they entered the Octagon, both combatants, known for their ruthless strength, began fighting. Pereira trapped Blachowicz in a guillotine choke and fought Blachowicz’s takedown attempt. After Pereira exhausted Blachowicz during the grappling round, the battle moved to a risky position for him.

In order to corner Blachowicz and force him against the walls of the Octagon, Pereira utilized his hips to counter Blachowicz’s grappling. In the final round, Blachowicz tried to slow down Pereira as they traded blows inside the Octagon. However, Pereira’s blows dispersed the two and brought him one step nearer to winning yet another UFC championship.
