A decade ago, Dagestan was not really on MMA fans’ minds as a place that raises the best fighters on the planet. But a decade later, things have taken a 360-degree turn. The rise of UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov has not only stamped his legacy in the world of MMA, but it has also opened doors for other Dagestani fighters.

After his retirement, Khabib’s protege Islam Makhachev continues to be the flagbearer of UFC’s best. Now, with Khabib’s cousin Umar Nurmagomedov also rising in the UFC rankings, no one can doubt that Dagestani fighters are here to stay in MMA. Recently, Umar Nurmagomedov appeared in an interview and compared the wrestling styles of Khabib and Islam Makhachev.
