The American submission grappler Gordon Ryan is one of the most dominant submission grapplers of all time. He holds a long list of accolades and achievements, which include 2 IBJJF world championships and two IBJJF No-Gi World championships.
During the ADCC 2022 event, Gordon Ryan dominated the mat and submitted his opponent, Andre Galvao, to win his fifth ADCC title win. Joe Rogan was in the audience, and this is how he reacted to Gordon’s achievement.

How the event panned out for Gordon Ryan
‘The King’ Gordon Ryan started the second day on a firm note when he submitted Roosevelt Sousa in a heel hook submission to enter into the finals of the Men’s +99kg division. Further, he defeated Rick Rodriguez with the same submission in 2:15. He almost wasted little time to win his fourth ADCC championship. Subsequently, he became the first ADCC champion in 3 different weight divisions.
Gordon Ryan then faced Andre Galvao in the ADCC Superfight. Andre Galvao, a 6-times ADCC champion, has entered the twilight years days of his career. Even so, he was on a four-year undefeated streak of winning ADCC Superfight, stretching way back to 2013.
The 27-year-old Gordon displayed a dominant performance against 40-year-old Galvao. He never gave Andre a chance in the submission bout. With less than 4 minutes left in the clock, Gordon was leading the scorecard 12-0. Afterward, he secured the win over Galvo with a rear-naked choke at 16:04.
Gordon Ryan’s MMA career
ONE Championship signed Gordon Ryan in 2021. Gordon made this transition to compete in submission grappling. Fans were hoping to see his MMA debut in ONE Championship and naturally expected him to start his MMA career with a submission win. Despite the scheduled debut of Gordon Ryan against Shinya Aoki in an open-weight grappling super match last year, Gordon has a tally of zero professional MMA matches.

The MMA debut of Gordon doesn’t seem far and is sure to attract thousands of followers to ONE Championship. This might end up becoming one of the biggest debut events for the promotion.
