The fan wanted to know whom he wanted to fight for the lightweight championship if he managed to defeat Justin Gaethje at UFC 291. He asked, “Who’d do you plan to beat up for the belt after you beat up Justin? Charles or Islam?”

While Islam Makhachev is the reigning champion, ‘The Diamond’ surprisingly took his former rival’s name. He said, “I think Charles [Oliveira].” Apparently, Dustin Poirier wants another go at Charles Oliveira, but this time, he wants to do it for the title.

With his UFC 289 victory over Beneil Dariush, Oliveira is in contention to get a title shot. If he wins, Poirier might decide to avenge his third-round submission loss at UFC 269.

Poirier wants a grudge match, but what does Islam Makhachev want?

‘The Diamond’ might have dismissed the idea of a matchup against Makhachev, but the Dagestani fighter is quite keen on facing Poirier. Makhachev has also revealed his opinions about Poirier in the past and they have been less than charitable. He had recently expressed his desire to face Dustin Poirier as his next opponent.

Earlier, after ‘The Diamond’s loss to Oliviera in UFC 269, Makhachev had taunted him, saying that he was in MMA to make some money and not to be a champion. In a recent online interview with Daniel Cormier, he had said that the upcoming BMF title was “for bums” and he could “beat these guys (Poirier and Gaethje) easy.”
