As UFC 300 approaches, fight fans all around the world are eagerly anticipating one of the biggest Pay-Per-View events in MMA. With most of the popular fighters either injured or already booked, there are questions about who will headline the UFC 300 event. However, fans believe something notorious is brewing.

Fight fans are hoping for some big names to be included in the UFC 300 card, in order to build massive hype around it. And talking about hype, who better than ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor? Though it was seemingly confirmed that McGregor won’t fight at UFC 300, fans around the world still anticipate McGregor to return to the Octagon at UFC 300. But, UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen thinks otherwise.

‘The American Gangster’ in a recent video posted on his channel, started off his argument by saying, “Conor coming off of that event struck people as a big surprise.” He then added, “Wow! Big event, their biggest star, their biggest stars available and they’re not putting their wealth.”

Sonnen explained the drawbacks of how not headlining an event could hurt McGregor’s value in the sport. He stated, “As soon as you demote a guy, it is very difficult to promote the guy.” He continued, “Conor is in a wildly unique position where the outcome of his last match does not impact the magnitude of his next and he’s been in that position for years… The result of his previous night does not affect his placement on the card. He was a main event then it will be a main event on the next one. Win or lose until he’s not.”

Chael Sonnen then maintained his argument, as he stated, “UFC 300 without knowing anything about it, will have a title fight. Conor McGregor will be the main event. If Conor McGregor were to fight at UFC 300 just on its face, he could not be a main event”. Sonnen then concluded his statement by saying, “So if you have Conor on a card, you have him third from the top just by example, he’s not returning to the top.”

Chael Sonnen does have a point here. Conor McGregor has been headlining all of his events since UFC 189. So, it wouldn’t make sense if McGregor didn’t fight in the main event of UFC 300, especially when his return has this much hype behind it.

However, the UFC president is known for his unusual curveballs. Even though Dana White has told the media of McGregor’s return, none of us could really be certain of what’s in store until the fight card for UFC 300 gets announced.
