Renato Moicano revealed the name of the opponent he wants to fight in a recent interview. The Brazilian native overpowered the competition by defeating Jai Herbert via submission on June 27, 2020.

Following a loss at UFC 256, Moicano was quick to retaliate in his next fight. He has now secured himself a place in the lightweight division. The 32-year-old is not stopping now and wants the promotion to set up a fight soon.

Recently, in an interview, the Brazilian revealed the name of a lightweight fighter he wants to face next inside the octagon. He said, He’s a great fighter that not too many people want to fight, so I’d be more than willing to test jiu-jitsu against his wrestling.”

He added, “I’ll work twice as hard at lightweight. Gillespie is avoided by others, right? My strategy is to ask for those fights, ask for fights that nobody wants. Nobody wants to fight this guy. He’s good, he’s at the top, so I want him. If you don’t want it, I’ll take it.”

The Brazilian fighter wishes to enter the octagon as soon as possible, and he clearly has a name that interests him. Moicano had his own reasons for calling out Gillespie from the entire lightweight roster. However, it is in the hands of the promotion; until then, Moicano has to wait for the decision.

Renato Moicano Unfolds the Reason Why He Wants to Fight Gregor Gillespie

Renato Moicano has moved from the featherweight division to the lightweight division. Since he entered the lightweight roster, the Brazilian fighter has one loss and two wins under his name.

Furthermore, Moicano wants to ladder up the division in the chase for lightweight gold. The latter believes Gillespie is the name that most fighters avoid and he could help him increase his rank in the roster. Moicano said, “I would really like to fight Gregor Gillespie. I know he’s a guy a lot of people avoid, right? I believe that the fights most guys avoid are easier to get.

All in all, if the UFC sets up this fight for Moicano, it is surely going to a big opportunity for him and a win will certainly fast track his journey towards the lightweight belt.
