Francis Ngannou left the UFC earlier this year. It came as a surprise to no one in the MMA world, as his disagreements with the UFC were publicly known. The promotion and ‘Predator’ fell out over issues of fighter pay, medical insurance, and in-cage personal sponsorships. The two reached an impasse, and the then-UFC heavyweight champ left the promotion after his contract was up.

He would sign with UFC competitor PFL a few months later. On the other hand, UFC boss Dana White is nothing if not a cut-throat businessman, known for going all out against his opponents. And the latest chapter in the UFC/ Dana White vs. Francis Ngannou saga is proof of White’s ruthlessness.

Francis Ngannou claims UFC trying to “erase history”

The controversy stems from a small description that the UFC put up during Cameroonian light heavyweight fighter Tafon Nchukwi‘s ring walk to the octagon to face AJ Dobson. Ngannou took exception to the ticker that said “Only Cameroonian fighter in UFC history” during his walk-out.

“Don’t let anyone lie and erase history.” Ngannou wrote in a post on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, accompanied by an image showing the aforementioned ticker. The French-Cameroonian saw it as a deliberate and malicious challenge to his nationality, and fight fans agreed with him.

Fans react to Ngannou’s response

Fans reacted to Ngannou hitting back at the UFC, and voiced their support and love for the 36-year-old. Here is what they had to say on Facebook.

A fan humorously compared the UFC’s behavior to that of a heartbroken girl. “UFC is behaving like a girl that got her heart broken. Believing in them is harder than believing in the flat earth theory.”

Another individual believed the UFC was using tactics to create a wedge between the two Cameroonians. “They just want to cause problems between you guys. Nganou remains the Goat of UFC.”

A user expressed Dana’s frustrations with Ngannou’s exit, “DANA is at it again lol he’s so damn hurting to his bone major. He is frustrated and angry. Nobody can erase history ever!”

Reflecting on the unprecedented achievement, a fan exclaimed, “UFC is still shocked of your success brother. History has been there no one is capable of bringing it down.”

Another, on the other hand, pointed out that technically, UFC was correct, as Francis is a dual national: “You are binational Francis N’Gannou. So he is the only one.”

A fan concurred that the UFC might have made an honest oversight, stating, “UFC probably did not update their records, having had the Champ started-off by representing the blue & white flag.”

One fan offered a perspective, nothing that a triumph over Tyson Fury would prevent a repetition of this error. “Don’t worry, after u destroy Fury they wont make that mistake again”.

Another individual voiced a similar sentiment about the UFC’s stance. “Facts are stubborn. They can say and write what they want but we have all experienced the coronation of Cameroonian Francis Ngannou.. The baddest man in the world”.

Ngannou will face Tyson Fury in a professional boxing match to decide who the “Baddest Man on the Planet” is on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. And this will probably only further motivate ‘Predator’ to knock Fury out and have his name – and nationality – known to the entire world. Do you think the UFC calling Nchukwi the only Cameroonian fighter in its history is just an honest mistake? Or do you think they did it to demean Ngannou?
