The UFC’s most entertaining heavyweight, Derrick Lewis, is about to face Ciryl Gane for the interim title at UFC 265. While both fighters have been fairly cordial to each other during the buildup of the event, Derrick Lewis recently weighed in on Ciryl Gane’s fighting style, referring to it as ‘boring’.
A proud Houston native, Derrick Lewis, is about to fight in front of his home crowd come Saturday night. However, it seems like ‘The Black Beast’ might be a little concerned about his opponent’s willingness to make the fight an exciting one.
“He is a boring fighter; he likes to sit back and do a lot of leg kicks and stuff like that but, I really want to have an exciting fight here in my hometown. Win lose or draw I want it to be exciting.”

While Gane doesn’t possess astonishing power in his hands like Lewis, ‘Bon Gamin’ has the patience and precision of a sniper in the Octagon. On the other hand, Derrick Lewis and his brawling style make it imperative for him to have a dance partner who is willing to engage in long and reckless exchanges. Perhaps Lewis’s concern stems from his fight with Francis Ngannou back in 2018 at UFC 226. It was the epitome of a snooze fest.
Anxious of getting hit, both fighters were gun shy throughout, leaving the fans completely outraged by the disappointing spectacle. Regardless, Derrick Lewis fans will hope that ‘The Black Beast’ doesn’t underestimate Gane’s abilities at UFC 265.
Can Derrick Lewis become the UFC’s heavyweight champion?
Holding the record for the most knockout victories at heavyweight, Derrick Lewis is one of the most decorated fighters in the division. And although he came up short the first time he got a title shot against Daniel Cormier, a refined and well-conditioned Derrick Lewis has been on a tear ever since.

The UFC was hoping to book Ngannou vs Derrick Lewis 2 for Ngannou’s first title defense. However, after a series of failed negotiations with the Champion, fans are about to witness an interim title fight between the no.2 and no.3 ranked fighters in the division. The winner of Lewis vs Gane will ultimately face Francis Ngannou sometime next year.
Should Derrick Lewis get the win over Gane this weekend, the 36-year-old will be a step closer to the belt. Moreover, the fact that he already has a win over Ngannou will probably make training for the second fight a little less taxing, mentally.
