It was probably one of the most memorable nights in Contender Series history. So much so that even UFC CEO Dana White had to say: ‘It was that close!’ After a tantalizing series of fights at Tuesday’s Dana White’s Contender Series, the UFC head honcho finally sat down for an amusing press conference.
Taking his time, the UFC CEO answered questions about the recent developments in his promotion. He also shed some light on the upcoming UFC 294 PPV, including his justification for the Tony Ferguson vs. Paddy Pimblett matchup. But there was one question that stumped the 54-year-old CEO.

Dana White stumped by question over Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate’s inactivity in the UFC
After a long Q&A session, a reporter brought up the brewing narrative in UFC’s welterweight division. Breaking the ice with Rafael Fiziev’s injury, and what it means for the division – the questions turned to UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate, Belal Muhammad, and his next potential fight.
A journalist presented Dana White with the pressing question: “You brought up the welterweight division. Literally, the only fighter that does not have a fight is – Belal Muhammad. Is he being eyed – does Belal Muhammad have a fight?”
Amusingly enough, it looked like the UFC top gun was not ready for such an abrupt question. Startled, he retorted back: “Oh, he has a fight! [But] no – I’m not gonna tell you! [laughs] Belal has a fight and we’ll announce it soon.”
On the other hand, Belal Muhammad has been pretty vocal about his inactivity in the fight game. Why? Well, since 2022, he has only fought three bouts to date. He has expressed his distaste for the matter innumerable times – and now, he’s taken it a step further with his bold jibe.
Belal Muhammad makes a jibe over White and his claims
A couple of hours ago, ‘Remember the Name’ took to his X handle – after the Contender Series event was over. He was pretty stoked with the way the fighters went blow for blow in the event. And this insinuated him to send out two tweets on X.
Man these fights are fire tonight

The first was just an expression of his excitement over the spectacular fights. However, the second tweet was a bit more intriguing. It seems like White’s comments about his matchup stirred something in the welterweight star.

I said yes to Strickland
— Belal Muhammad (@bullyb170) September 27, 2023
In a playful and perhaps slightly tongue-in-cheek manner, Muhammad wrote: “I said yes to Strickland,” referring to Sean Strickland, the current UFC Middleweight champion.
