Jorge Masvidal is one of the most experienced fighters in the UFC. ‘The Gamebred’ has a pro-MMA record that boasts 51 fights. His record reads 51-35-16. The fighter has been away from the Octagon for a while now. Speculations were ripe that he will take on Gilbert Burns at the MSG, but the fight never happened. Fans later accused Masvidal of running away from a tough fight.
Masvidal had also called out Hunter Campbell, who is Gilbert Burns‘ teammate tagging Burns and calling him out for a fight earlier in November this year, but nothing has been finalized yet. Fans are also contemplating the probability of Masvidal fighting Leon Edwards for a shot at the Welterweight belt.

While speculations and assumptions are in abundance. Gilbert Burns’ teammate and welterweight #9 Brazilian fighter Vicente Luque has shed some light on why he thinks the Burns vs Masvidal fight never happened. He was talking to Mike Owen on his YouTube channel ‘Middle Easy’. The channel has over 20k subscribers. Owen asked Luque what he thought was the reason that kept Masvidal vs Burns fight from materializing. The response from Luque may not impress ‘The Gamebred’ much.
Is Masvidal avoiding a tough opponent?
Responding to Michael Owen’s questions, Luque said, “I gotta think that something went wrong you know on the other side with Mas.” Vicente Luque said that Gilbert Burns is a guy who never runs from a good fight and turns up for fights even if he has just recovered from an Injury.
Adding further about why he thinks the fight between Burns and Masvidal didn’t happen He said, “maybe you know its a tough opponent and he doesn’t want to risk you know fighting a guy even though Gilbert is well ranked he’s a tough guy you know”
He further added, “so it’s always a fight that some guys are not willing to take or maybe personal issues”

While fans are skeptical about Jorge Masvidal‘s next fight, Masvidal has gotten himself a new role. He is promoting the new MMA promotion, iKON FC. Masvidal had earlier talked about how he wanted to bring more exciting South American fighters and his vision for iKON FC.
