While the entire combat sports universe expected to see ‘Bones’ fight Francis Ngannou, things went awry and Ngannou walked out of the UFC. Jones, then competed against Ciryl Gane and secured a spectacular win by submission. The next fighter who got the chance to fight Jones was none other than Stipe Miocic. Jones previously declared that he would retire after his fight with Miocic. However, talks are on the rise that claims Jones doesn’t want to retire.

The reality behind Jon Jones’ retirement

Recently, Sonnen took to his YouTube talk show and made a brave claim that the MMA promotion played a nasty game against Jon Jones. He believed that Jones was simply following the boss when he made the announcement.

Sonnen said, “When you announce that fight, and you announce the date and they are on sale. Soon after that, you could come out, it’s alright, Jon Jones will say ‘this is gonna be my last fight’. Jon never planned to market his fight this way. It got handed to him. And he thought he was following the ques of his boss. He didn’t know he was playing a game of chess.”

Immediately after, he revealed that there would be a vacant heavyweight belt after Jones’ retirement and named a few fighters who would fight for it. However, his belief that Jones was oblivious to the game plan had strong roots. He said, “Jon does not wanna retire after Stipe, he doesn’t plan to retire, he doesn’t have the money to retire. He didn’t know that he was in an intellectual game with the master.”

“He didn’t know that, he thought he was backing the master. So he just said what he said.”
