Colby Covington has clinched the coveted next title shot at 170 lbs against the reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Despite the disappointment expressed by various quarters, Dana White remains unyieldingly determined to give ‘Chaos’ the opportunity he seeks.

Recently the UFC president revealed a tentative date for the welterweight title fight between Edwards and Covington. The promotion is targeting the much-anticipated matchup for UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden on November 11. The main event of the spectacular show will witness the heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Initially, the UFC 294 card was being considered as a potential host for Edwards vs. Covington. However, White announced the main and co-main events for the Abu Dhabi card instead, further fueling the anticipation for the grand 30th-anniversary show at MSG. Amidst all the buzz surrounding his title shot, Covington has made his case for why he should serve as the backup for the blockbuster event.

Colby Covington aims to jump over Jon Jones

Colby Covington expressed his certainty about being on the UFC 295 card in a recent interview with UFC legend Chael Sonnen on YouTube. However, he put forth his points with a scathing rant against the UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

The former UFC interim welterweight champion confidently stated his comeback fight taking place in the MSG. Talking about the same, he said, “They keep making a big deal out of this 30th anniversary show. Then what better way than to give the gift of us in Madison Square Garden for the 30th-anniversary show in New York?”

He further added, “They gotta stack that card. They can’t depend on Jon Jones and you know better than anyone. He is unreliable. He is unprofessional. He could get popped for steroids. He could do a glass of tequila and some booger sugar up his nose. And he might be beating his wife and in jail again. So, who better than to have as insurance policy than Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington?”
