UFC legend Chael Sonnen spoke on his podcast about the championship fight at UFC 286. Sonnen was critical of Edwards owing to his actions in the octagon. The UFC welterweight champion was called out for grabbing the fence in the fight. The former UFC middleweight blasted the English fighter in the podcast. Chael Sonnen said, “He cheated so many times that I lost track.”
Moreover, the controversial MMA personality added, “He cheated so many times that the announcers who never call out cheats called it out three times. He cheated so many times that the referee that lets a lot of this stuff slide finally stepped in because he couldn’t let it slide.
The UFC legend clarified that Edwards’ intentions were pure and his move came out of instinct rather than premeditation.

Chael Sonnen also explained the reason Edwards might have committed the foul. The UFC middleweight legend said, “Leon wasn’t looking to be a scumbag, but he was looking to stay on his feet against the guy whose background is wrestling.”
The former UFC middleweight explained further that it was Usman’s intimidating background history as a wrestler that might have led to Edwards making such a decision. However, he reiterated that it was a fair point that was being deducted during the fight.
