Who remembers the time when Mark Coleman shoved Joe Rogan through a wall? The video from 2022 resurfaced on the internet and has become viral again. Recalling this “gentle push”, recently when Coleman appeared on the Jaxxon podcast, he shared the story behind his viral wrestling moment with Joe Rogan that could have gone very wrong for the UFC commentator!
Coleman revealed that alcohol was involved in some capacity in the incident. He further mentioned that it was Rogan who started to prompt the punch. The Hammer said, “It was after one of Joe’s shows. Yeah, I met him, gave him a little hug, but then when we hugged, it turned into a little wrestling thing. And then takes my back. Everybody thinks Joe let up coz he had my back. But his face was in my lower back, he didn’t have my back, he had my middle, lower back.”

The 59-year-old then broke down how he tried to turn to face Rogan and, in the process of “clearing some space”, he ended up pushing the comedian and UFC commentator when he was off-balance leading to him slamming into the wall. However, ‘The Hammer’ was relieved when Rogan was uninjured, and when Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, co-host of the podcast, asked if things were okay between Rogan and Coleman now, the UFC legend responded, “Oh I feel bad. But he can take it, you know. He was cool with it.”
The first UFC Heavyweight Champion then made another stunning revelation that he’s scheduled to appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast, the JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) soon, and as such, fans can expect to hear incredible stories from the early days of mixed martial arts from an integral figure in the sport’s history.

And since Rogan has previously indicated that he’d like one of ‘The Hammer’s trademark moves to be legalized in modern MMA, the conversation might even reveal what led to the development of the technique by Coleman!
Rogan wanted the UFC to legalize ‘The Hammer’s move once again
In his conversation with UFC bantamweight, Cory Sandhagen during the JRE MMA Show no. 138, Joe Rogan and the UFC star discussed the idea of adding moves to modern MMA to make it more of an accurate simulation of a real fight rather than a ‘sport’.
As such, Rogan brought up Mark Coleman’s use of headbutts on grounded opponents as something he’d like to see inside the Octagon again. Coleman’s nickname, ‘The Hammer’ was given to him in light of his terrifying ground and pound that saw him take down his opponents with his superior wrestling and then head-butt them into oblivion on the ground.
Rogan stated, “Why wouldn’t you be allowed to headbutt? Mark Coleman when he was the f**king king would take guys down get them in their guard and then headbutt the f**k out of them, it was a big part of his strategy beating the sh*t out of you on the ground including headbutts.”

However, with more emphasis on fighter safety and the genuine threat of CTE in combat sports, it remains unlikely that we’ll see headbutts as a legal technique inside the cage anytime soon.
