UFC 294 saw a couple of big changes to the card. Kamaru Usman and Alexander Volkanovski replaced Paulo Costa and Charles Oliveira on short notice, but both of them faced defeat in Abu Dhabi. As such, Joe Rogan recently opined on the situation and claimed that ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ and ‘The Great’ did not make the right decision.

Kamaru Usman and Alexander Volkanovski are among the greatest fighters to ever step foot inside the Octagon. They were both hoping to get a win at UFC 294 but failed to do so. This prompted Joe Rogan to mention where they went wrong. Let us take a look at what he had to say.

Khamzat Chimaev and Islam Makhachev are currently two of the most elite fighters on the UFC roster. This is one reason why Joe Rogan did not favor both Kamaru Usman and Alexander Volkanovski stepping in to take the fights on short notice. He said during a recent ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ episode, When that fight was announced, I was like, ‘Ooh, that’s a great fight.’ But if I was in Kamaru’s ear, I’m like, ‘Dude, nope.’ I’d say the same thing to Volkanovski. I’d say, ‘Nope.'”

However, Kamaru Usman had a better outing than Alexander Volkanovski. The former welterweight champion fared well in his first middleweight bout and lost the fight only via majority decision. Meanwhile, Volkanovski suffered a brutal head-kick knockout defeat to Islam Makhachev. Joe Rogan believes that ‘The Great’ squandered his opportunity to etch his name in the history books by taking the fight in just 10 days.

“Not 10 days. You’re the world champion [and] not just the world champion, you’re one of the best ever. And you have a real opportunity to go down in history as the greatest of all time,” said Joe Rogan. The 56-year-old also mentioned how the head kick can make a big difference going forward. Let’s take a look at that front.

JRE host claims head kicks can change lives

Even though Alexander Volkanovski chose to fight with just 10 days’ notice, the fight will still count. Joe Rogan stated that a week and a half camp is not enough for a big-money fight. And the way the fight finished with the head kick, he believes it could lead to a change in Volkanovski’s life. “Then he gets head-kicked with a 10-day camp and he gets knocked out. Like, that counts… A head kick like that can change your life,” said Rogan.

Kamaru Usman met a similar fate when he fought Leon Edwards at UFC 278. ‘Rocky’ landed a head kick in the fifth round, knocking out ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ and winning the welterweight championship. It became one of the biggest highlights of 2022, but since then, Usman has not been able to get back to his winning ways.

Meanwhile, there is no word as to what lies ahead for Kamaru Usman. We will have to wait and see what unfolds in the days to come.
