It is been a long since we heard about McGregor’s return but there have not been any official announcements from any valid sources. ‘Notorious’ on the eve of New Year stated that he would fight Michael Chandler in June, however, Dana White denied any such fights. This has raised further eyebrows from the MMA community.
Former fighter and UFC insider, Chael Sonnen believes that Conor McGregor’s situation is rather grim. ‘The American Gangster’ stated that the Dubliner is finding it hard to make a comeback. “Four days prior to Conor telling us he was going to fight Michael Chandler on June 29th at T-Mobile Arena, four days prior to that, he told us he was going to box Manny Pacquiao in the Middle East. I’m not comfortable. As a matter of fact, if you want to know what I think’s going on, I think Conor’s having a hard time getting this fight,” voiced Sonnen.
Sonnen further emphasizes that there are concerns about the credibility of this announcement due to past discrepancies in McGregor’s statements. Sonnen further explains that he speculates that McGrergor and Chandler have a plan for their fight. “I think Connor has now gone to the public, stated a date that he knows is available, got Chandler to back them up, and they’re doing this to work into this bout agreement backwards, which is fascinating. I love when guys do that.”
The former fighter went two steps ahead and claimed that he had a conversation with T-Mobile Arena about their match “I went on Sports Center and made that big claim that got a lot of people to raise their eyebrows. I called T-Mobile Arena. T-Mobile Arena says we have a reserve for the UFC, but we don’t. They have not booked it yet.” said Sonnen.
