Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns‘ rivalry only is growing each day. Masvidal recently accused Burns of lying about the failed negotiations of their fight. However, Burns has now fired back, saying Masvidal was the one lying.

Gilbert Burns delivered a potential fight-of-the-year candidate with his three-round war against Khamzat Chimaev. Although he lost a close decision, he raised his stock by going toe to toe with the Chechen wrecking machine. Following the loss, Burns called out Masvidal, who had just lost to Colby Covington.
Burns says UFC wanted to make the Masvidal fight
‘Gamebred‘ and ‘Durinho’ expressed their interest in fighting each other on social media earlier this year. Despite talks going on for months about a potential bout, the fight never came to fruition. Now, both welterweights are flapping gums at each other about what went wrong in the negotiations.

Responding to Masvidal’s claims, Burns said, “It’s a fight the UFC wants, you know? I don’t even need to ask for this fight because I know the UFC wants to make it happen. I would ask for a rematch with Khamzat [Chimaev], or Colby [Covington]. I would ask for everybody, really. But it’s a fight the UFC wants. He’s hard to negotiate and whatever.”

Burns also mentioned that UFC matchmaker Sean Selby also insisted on the Masvidal fight. According to Burns, Masvidal kept stalling but Selby wanted to make the fight. The Brazilian repeated his claim that Masvidal agreed to December 10th and then changed it to January before backing out three weeks later.

Masvidal completely denies agreeing to the aforementioned dates. In his reply to Burns, he mentioned England in March for a fight. ‘Gamebred’ wants to fight on the Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman card. Recently, he turned down a callout from Michael Chandler for the BMF belt.

Jorge Masvidal dismissed Michael Chandler’s callout
After his submission loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281, Michael Chandler proposed a BMF title fight against Jorge Masvidal. He suggested bringing in ‘The Rock’ like the first time to give away the belt. However, the current BMF did not welcome the idea and dismissed Chandler as unworthy of a BMF title shot.
Masvidal outright called a “quitter.” He said, “BMF my a**. That’s the first rule of being a BMF — you can’t be a quitter. You might lose, but you can’t give up on yourself. You can’t quit. That conversation for the BMF belt? No, it ain’t happening.”
As it stands, Masvidal does not have a fight booked. He has been on a hiatus since his crushing defeat to Colby Covington in March.
