“Hard To Believe…”: MMA Twitter Reacts As Undefeated Dana White Contender Series Fighter Tastes Defeat for the First Time at UFC 285

Jon Jones’ mega return at UFC 285 was something that the fans were keeping a close eye on. Thus, they were glued to their streaming devices from the first prelim fight. And the first fight at the PPV event inside the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas did not disappoint. Tajikistan-born fighter Loik Radzhabov (16-4-1) got the job done after a highly competitive bout and won his UFC lightweight debut by defeating Esteban Ribovics (a former Dana White Contender Series fighter, 11-0) to kick off the early prelims. 

Official Decision: Loik Radzhabov wins by a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

The bout undeniably lived up to the expectations as it showed why it was picked to kick off one of the biggest cards of the year with pound-for-pound greats fighting at the top of the card. Furthermore, fight fans poured their emotions on social media after the incredible back-and-forth fight.

MMA world reacts to Radhzabov vs. Ribovics at UFC 285

Radzhabov began the battle with a few jabs. Immediately after, Ribovics lost his footing as the man from Tajikistan scored a takedown. The Argentinian was quick on his feet throughout the fight and gave tough competition to Radzhabov. However, Radzhabov’s glorious takedowns were what energized the entire audience.

Impressively, Ribovics secured a few points with the body shots that rocked his opponent in the second round. He stunned his opponent with a combination of hits. Unfortunately, for Ribovics, the ‘Jaguar Paw’ was a man who could kick heavily.

However, the fight became even more exciting as Radzhabov became furious with his takedowns in the third round. He seemingly kept Ribovics pinned and tried to submit the ‘Gringo’ with kimuras. Nevertheless, Ribovics was quick with his sprawls. Surprisingly, he bounced back to his feet every single time. 

The fans and professional mixed martial artists shared their opinion on social media. Undeniably, it was a fight worthy of being the opening bout for UFC 285.

Radzhabov became one of the few fighters who performed ten or more takedowns in the UFC. With a unanimous decision, ‘Jaguar Paw’ won his debut match. Without a doubt, it was a great start to the evening.
