Conor McGregor’s last UFC outing was in July 2021 against Dustin Poirier. Unfortunately, ‘The Notorious’ one suffered a horrific leg break in the very first round that put him out of action since then.

Prior to that, he lost to Poirier in two rounds in January 2021. However, the UFC’s biggest PPV star to date made substantial financial gains from his very limited time in the octagon.

Conor McGregor overtook Canelo Alvarez and Cristiano Ronaldo

Conor McGregor overtook leading athletes like Canelo Alvarez and Cristiano Ronaldo in earnings per minute for the year 2021. The 34-year-old shared an Instagram post showing the same on his IG story. In the story, McGregor wrote, “Grafters the lads are, fair play.”

According to reports, McGregor is light years ahead of his competition in terms of earnings per minute. The Irishman earned a whopping $8,695,652 per minute for his in-cage activity between January 2021 and January 2022. This means that it took him just 7 seconds to earn $1 million.

In comparison, boxing’s Canelo Alvarez earned $444,444 per minute while NFL’s Tom Brady earned $37,500 per minute. Soccer icon Cristiano Ronaldo earned $18,662 a minute.

McGregor also earned another accolade in 2021 when he topped the Forbes list of the highest-paid athletes. The MMA icon left global athletes like Lionel Messi and Ronaldo in the dust to achieve the feat.

Interestingly, ‘Mystic Mac’ had once told Cristiano Ronaldo, in person, that he would overtake him on the Forbes list.

When McGregor predicted beating Ronaldo on the Forbes list

In 2016, Cristiano Ronaldo and Conor McGregor had a brief meeting in Vegas. The Irishman was in camp for his second bout against Nate Diaz when Ronaldo and company dropped in.

They exchanged pleasantries for a while before comparing their wealth. Back then, Ronaldo was atop the Forbes list of the highest-earning athletes.

McGregor, who was ranked in the low thirties then, told the Portuguese star, “Maybe next year I’ll get ya.”

‘The Notorious’ overtook Ronaldo the very next year after the May-Mac fight, but could not top the Forbes list. However, he eventually achieved the feat in 2021, after amassing $180 million.
