Is Team Conor McGregor just being sore losers, or is there truth to their steroid claims against Belal?

Belal Muhammad has shocked the world. ‘Bully B’ thoroughly outclassed Leon Edwards at UFC 304 not only in grappling but also striking to win a unanimous decision and become the new UFC welterweight champion.

However, his win has come under scrutiny from many quarters as questions are being raised about PED usage on his part. Muhammad, some feel looks jacked and had excellent cardio in the fight. Perhaps a bit too jacked and with suspiciously good cardio, not to mention he trained in Dagestan for the fight, where the long arm of the anti-doping agencies cannot reach as easily.

The Dagestani fighters, of course, have long faced accusations of using steroids, especially by the likes of Conor McGregor, who has a long-standing animosity toward them. However, there is no real evidence that this is the case.

The one thing most point to is Islam Makhachev failing a drug test eight years ago. However, what they fail to mention is that- one, Makhachev was accused of taking a supplement that was banned four months prior to his failed test. And two, the Dagestani was cleared of all charges by the anti-doping agency as they determined that he had taken the substance before it was banned. But, Muhammad’s performance and shape have led notable combat sports personalities to allege there was something fishy.

Belal Muhammad accused of steroid use after UFC 304 win

Former Bellator fighter and Conor McGregor’s friend, Dillon Danis took to Twitter and asked rhetorically why the American was so fit, implying it was steroids with a syringe emoji. “I wonder why Belal has good cardio after going to Dagestan 🤔💉,” he tweeted.

Analyst extraordinaire MMA Guru made a characteristically tongue-in-cheek post, advising fighters they could overcome their ‘genetic’ inferiority by using PEDs.

“This just goes out to all the doubters there

Have an interesting take?

If you are genetically inferior in every way and getting your ass beat.

Take steroids, double the size of every muscle, increase the width of your head, get veins everywhere, even on your back and sides. And beat Leon Edwards for the belt #UFC304,” Guru wrote in a tweet.

Paulo Costa too joined in and posted a picture of Muhammad holding one of the bottles of his famous ‘Secret Juice’, clearly implying the Chicago native was on the juice. “🧃👀,” Costa captioned the post.

Kamaru Usman too chimed in, but simply congratulated the ethnic Palestinian, doubtless finding glee in Edwards, who had taken the title off of him, losing to Muhammad. “Congratulations @bullyb170 😏😏 #ufc304,” Usman wrote.

Fans, too, joined in on the action, with one asking: “Ok is Belal on steroids? Cause dude is fucking JACKED”

Another repeated Nate Diaz‘s iconic line in reference to the Chicago native: “Everyone is on steroids.”

It is important to note that every fighter goes through drug testing prior to the fight, as well as being subject to surprise drug tests. Muhammad has not failed any drug tests so far. His shape may be explained by the fact that he was fighting for what he has always dreamed of- winning a UFC title, for which he may have worked harder than ever before to be in better shape than ever before. While the PED allegations are being freely made against ‘Bully B’ at the moment, there is no evidence he has taken any banned substances, which means these are meaningless allegations at this point.
