Painful memories are the ones that show people who stood by their side during the hardest of times. Struggles are undeniably a part of every single warrior enrolled in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Glover Teixeira is no exception to this fact. The heavyweight warrior entered the premises of the United States of America illegally, back when he was 19 years old. However, it became a hurdle for the fighter as he desired to acquire a Green Card. Although he had to stay miles away from his wife, Ingrid Teixeira, the couple didn’t lose hope. Finally, with what seemed like eternal yearning and pain, Teixeira got the clearance to legally enter the US and be with his wife.

Without a doubt, the memories brought tears to the fighter’s eyes. However, the memories were destined to rise again as the fighter’s years old pictures began circling around the internet.

In an exclusive interview with the ‘Flow Sport Club’, Teixeira talked about how he entered the States illegally and then married an American. Without a doubt, he knew that he required a Green Card in order to fight and continue his career in the US. However, following the 9/11 attacks, it became excruciating for the fighter to get the Card. He returned to Brazil to apply for a waiver request. Unfortunately, the request for the waiver was denied.

Teixeira recalled, “You explain, ‘Look, I’m sorry I entered this way, but now I’m here in Brazil and I want to enter the country legally,’ right? I got denied on the first try. When I got there, they told me, ‘No, we will not accept your waiver,’ (even though) we were married.”

Furthermore, the fighter remembered how he was left without a job and almost no money. He said, “I was jobless and broke here (Brazil). (She sent money) just so I could survive there in Rio.” It was his wife who supported him through the hard times. But as the fighter began losing hope, his wife came as the savior.

He recalled that his wife sent an emotional letter to the senator of Connecticut, Chris Murphy. Surprisingly, the senator called immigration and ordered a visa for the fighter. He said, “She sent a letter, a letter to the senator, an emotional letter saying, ‘Look, I’m an American citizen and I need my husband here. I’m in a lot of pain.’”

The gift Ingrid Teixeira received on her birthday

Teixeira’s wife celebrated her birthday on the 23rd of December. While she sent the letter in August, the interview for immigration was scheduled for December. Without a doubt, it would have been one of the greatest presents the Teixeiras ever received.
