An uncontrolled fire has forced the evacuation of some 6,000 people and the closure of roads and schools due to the risk of rapid spread of the flames in the city of Malibu, in western California. The fire, known as Franklin, has burned more than 2,200 acres in less than 24 hours and spread along the Pacific coast, forcing the closure of all schools until further notice in central and eastern Malibu, where more than 10,000 residents reside. With such an ongoing tragedy, Joe Rogan couldn’t help but remember his near-death experience on the latest edition (JRE #2240) of his Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Speaking to guests Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avery, Rogan talked about how life often gets tough for people living in Malibu and Los Angeles considering how wildfire often makes citizens evacuate their homes – something that made Tarantino ask Rogan about the JRE hosts’ personal experience with such situations: “So, three different times, you got evacuated from your house? Three different times. And so, what is it like? Okay, so you decide what you’re going to take with you, kind of thing?”

Revealing the story about his time in Los Angeles, the UFC commentator narrated that he had to evacuate his home with his family and with little belongings in hand since the LA wildfire came really close to his house, and it was a situation that really threatened the lives of the ones living in it.

He said on the podcast, “Last time, it was during the last big fire in LA. I came home from The Comedy Store at like 1:00 in the morning, and my wife and I were looking out the window. The fire was maybe 5 or 6 hundred yards away and coming over the hill. We looked at each other, and I said, “Let’s just get the f*** out of here. Let’s just get out of here now.” So we grabbed the kids, got a laptop, took some clothes. I didn’t even have underwear. I said, “We could just buy stuff. Who gives a f***? Who cares if you have your life?”

Seeing that the conversation was getting really serious, Roger Avery decided to make a stunning confession that made Rogan and Tarantino burst out in laughter. So what did he say? Well, Avery revealed that while others easily evacuate their houses to save their lives, he prefers staying inside of it. “I’m always the—I don’t want to say the stupid guy—but I’m the guy who, for some reason, always decides, ‘I’m going to stay.'” However, this isn’t the first time that Joe Rogan brought up the topic of wildfires on his podcast. In a previous edition, he revealed the brutal scenes of the Malibu fire aftermath.

Back when Joe Rogan talked about the Malibu fire aftermath

The Woolsey Fire is considered one of the most destructive fires in the history of California. Only the Griffith Park Fire in 1933 and the Tunnel Fire in 1991 have claimed more lives. Burning over 96,949 acres of land while also destroying 1,643 structures, it led to the evacuation of over 295,000 people. In his podcast episode with Sam Morril, Joe Rogan shared the sadness he felt when he saw the broadcast of the fire on his television.

On JRE episode #2178, the UFC commentator revealed the story of a man whose house was saved by a firefighter. However, the relief did not last long for him since he had to watch his neighbor’s house get incinerated right in front of his eyes. If that wasn’t enough, he also saw people looking at the wreckage and how many people had passed away while in their cars. He said, “It’s like you’re looking at the most insane wasteland of burnt homes and people weeping and crying and people died in their cars. It was horrible.”

With such negative experiences with wildfires, among his other issues with living in LA, it is no wonder that Rogan decided to move to Texas the moment that he could. After all, he might’ve been mentally scarred by the experiences he faced with the wildfires. But what do you think? Did Rogan make the right move by moving out to Texas in 2020? Would you have also done the same? Let us know in the comments.
