Georges St-Pierre is perhaps one of the best mixed martial artists in the history of the UFC. He became a 3-time welterweight champion and a one-time middleweight champion. St-Pierre recently made an appearance on Paddy Pimblett’s ‘Chattin Pony With’ podcast. He discussed how he would have fared against current welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev. Georges St-Pierre was known to be one of the best fighters inside the octagon. He fought MMA legends like Michael Bisping, Matt Serra, BJ Penn, and Jake Shields, just to name a few. The two-division champion defended his welterweight title a total of nine times. St-Pierre also holds the record for most title fights in the UFC’s welterweight division.

GSP retired from all MMA competitions in 2019. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame the following year under the ‘Modern-Era’ wing. GSP later found his feet in acting and appeared in movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), The Hurt Business (2016), and Kickboxer: Retaliation (2018).

Khamzat Chimaev is one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. His ability to rag-doll his opponents is second to none. Chimaev has even claimed that people are afraid to fight him. However, Paddy Pimblett took the opportunity to ask GSP about his thoughts on how he would fare in a fight against the Swedish fighter. GSP shared, “With Khamzat, I’m gonna have to make a big assessment, normally that’s what I do before I fight someone.”

GSP mentioned that he has witnessed Khamzat Chimaev fight and believes that he’s a unique fighting style. “I’ve seen Khamzat fight. He’s very, very good. He’s got a great pressure style, very aggressive,” said the UFC Hall of Famer. He claimed that Chimaev’s toughest fight was against Gilbert Burns.

The former two-division champion believes he would need to know the strengths and weaknesses of Chimaev to be able to put up a good fight. GSP claims that Khamzat Chimaev’s tall stature doesn’t really help in knowing the direction of a smaller fighter. He said, “He’s a wrestler, which is not very common. Normally wrestlers fight more short. Sometimes when you are taller than your opponent in a striking department because you’re looking down, you’re gonna have a harder time to see the punches that are coming…”

Thus, GSP didn’t give a verdict. But he surely recognized the Russian-born athlete’s finesse in MMA.
