Joe Rogan has a morbid fascination with the ocean. The JRE podcast host has a love for wildlife and animals, talking about them regularly on his podcast. However, marine and especially deep ocean life is one subject that is of special interest to the stand-up comic.
Rogan has compared the deep ocean to space on account of it being largely unexplored and the home of Lovecraftian creatures and has said it was like an unexplored world. Despite this, the UFC commentator has revealed what deters him from exploring the ocean on episode #2084 of the JRE podcast with comedian Jim Breuer.

Rogan shares his experience from the Virgin Islands vacation
Jim Breuer remarked that Joe Rogan looked “all happy and refreshed,” at the beginning of his podcast appearance. Rogan told the fellow comedian that he had just returned from a relaxing ten-day vacation in the British Virgin Islands, where he did some snorkeling.
“Well I was on vacation. So I went to the British Virgin Islands for ten days. Just chilled, went to the beach, did some fishing. Wonderful time. Just relaxing. Did some snorkeling. ” the podcast host told Breuer.
On being asked if he tried some scuba diving there, Rogan revealed that he did not as he was scared of it. He was horrified at the thought of going deep underwater with just a tank of oxygen, fearing what might happen if something went wrong.
“Scuba kind of freaks me out, I would do it, but the idea of relying on that task of air and you breathe it underwater and you slowly have to make your way to the surface. F**k, what if something goes sideways? How long can you hold your breath?” he added.
And the ocean was not the only topic near and dear to Rogan’s heart that the two comedians discussed. During the course of the podcast, Rogan also spoke about how he would approach fighting a monkey after the pair stumbled upon a video of a child being attacked by a monkey in front of their family. This prompted the host to reveal how he would approach the situation.

Rogan discusses game plan if he were to fight a monkey
Rogan told Breuer that if he were to be in a situation where his family were being attacked by a monkey, he would leave no stone unturned to beat up the primate. The former kickboxer claimed he would try to kick the monkey hard to try and get it to run away as a fight against the powerful animals would be difficult for him.
“Yeah, let me see that again. I think I go straight for, try to kick him, the monkey that’s on the stairs… I’m going to power-kick that monkey into another dimension… That 35-lbs animal or whatever the fu** it is has insane power and it’s fearless. So, you got to, right there, you got to smash, man. You got to smash that monkey,” the 56-year-old voiced.
