Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones won their respective title fights almost a month apart from each other. Both their penultimate bouts were almost a year apart from each other. While these athletes had incredible runs in the UFC, their paths never crossed, especially because they were a weight class apart. Both were on the verge of a collision course, especially with Jones’ then-plans to move up to heavyweight, but that fight never played out due to failed negotiations between the UFC and both fighters respectively. Now, with ‘The Predator’ in the PFL, and a champion at that, it seems like that super fight with Jones will never happen. Or will it? Hear from the Cameroonian heavyweight champion himself.
‘The Predator’ was impressed, albeit not surprised, by Jon Jones’ UFC 309 performance, and expressed the same while talking to TMZ. When asked about a potential fight against ‘Bones’, considering the UFC champion is only interested in fighting ‘established guys who are dangerous’ as opposed to new-comers, here’s what ‘The Predator’ said, Well, you know, as he said he only talks about UFC business. I think we [are] all about that, like he is in the [UFC} promotion deal and I am in the [PFL] promotion deal, and if those two promotions [get] along, [we] can figure out a way [to make that fight]. Like us talking about established champion or not would not help.”
However, Ngannou knows that fight won’t happen, firstly because UFC head honcho Dana White is admittedly not a fan of cross-over fights in MMA. Furthermore, ‘The Predator’ has been at loggerheads with White for some time now, with the latter openly expressing his disdain for the Cameroonian and the PFL. But Ngannou acknowledged the scale of the dream matchup between him and Jon Jones, saying, “For now, his options are in his roster, and my options are in my roster. That’s how it is. It’s not what we want or what we’d like to have, [it] doesn’t matter much. But the reality is, we both want this fight for sure. It will be a good fight for us.”

Both Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones are separated by their personalities, promotions, and the continents they hail from. The only thing common about them is that they’re both at the top of their packs, dominant as ever. However, there’s another similarity between ‘The Predator’ and ‘Bones’, and that has to do with their financial positions.

Francis Ngannou agrees with Jon Jones’ demand for ‘f**k you money’ to fight Tom Aspinall
There’s only one condition where Jon Jones will fight interim champion Tom Aspinall, and that’s if he’s adequately compensated. In Jones’ words, he wants ‘f**k you money’ from the UFC if they make him face ‘Honey Badger’. If that doesn’t happen, ‘Bones’ is perfectly happy walking away from the sport with the added bonus of not facing a dangerous prospect in Aspinall. Jones’ stance echoes a very similar situation Ngannou found himself in when he relinquished his UFC title and left the promotion due to contractual disputes.
In that vein. ‘The Predator’ fully agrees with ‘Bones’ and even highlighted a tactic the UFC uses to justify letting go of fighters wanting more money – “They [UFC] use that in the negotiation to say ‘Oh no he doesn’t want to fight this guy, he’s scared,’ and then that’s how the machine works. And I think he’s[Jones is] in the position to claim like what he wants.”

Ngannou also stated how Jones has the upper hand in this regard as he’s done practically everything as a UFC champion. Furthermore, Jones is playing into fight fans’ ‘ducking’ allegations by changing his Instagram profile picture to a duck. Jones also expressed that he’s content with being #2 on the P4P list at the age of 37. It seems like ‘Bones’ is truly in a win-win situation.
