The 39-year-old former Bellator and UFC Lightweight fighter has yet to fully commit to staying out of MMA after squaring off against Chad Mendes earlier this year at BKFC 41. During the bout, Alvarez pointed to Conor McGregor, who was shouting out instructions from the audience, after landing an uppercut on Mendes. Alvarez edged out a split decision win over his former colleague and has been on the sideline since.
He recently engaged in a brief online exchange with his long-time adversary, Dustin Poirier. In a post that highlighted the faces of various fighters in their rage mode. He commented, “Beat them all”. Dustin Poirier was quick to respond and stated “Not me cuh”
Alvarez was quick to respond to Poirier, stating that Poirier managed to get back up in the second fight. However, he emphasized that he outmaneuvered him in their first match. He further declared that he would certainly do it again if they were to face off for a third time. Alvarez quoted “You got back in the second fight respect. But let’s be real i out doged for the first match up i would def do it again if we rumbled a third “
Eddie Alvarez’s History with Dustin Poirier
Eddie Alvarez has fought Dustin Poirier on two occasions. However, he has not defeated ‘The Diamond’ once. In their first encounter, Alvarez landed a pair of knees directly on the head of Poirier. These impactful blows opened a cut on Poirier’s face, sending him tumbling to the canvas. Referee Herb Dean promptly intervened, stopping the fight at precisely four minutes and 12 seconds into the second round.
The second time they fought Poirier had made up his mind to win. The Lafayette, Lousiana native dominated the former champion and secured a TKO win at the end of the second round, similar to his feat against Conor McGregor three years later at UFC 257.

Now the doors seem to be opening for a rubber match against Alvarez but it is far from materializing. ‘The Underground King’s being outside the UFC makes it hard for the fight to come together. Sadly for Poirier, there are not many options for him after his recent KO loss at UFC 291. The former interim champion currently remains in limbo weighing his options.
