Georges St-Pierre confirmed that he is friends with Leon Edwards and would have biased favoritism over Edwards and will be supporting him instead of Covington at the main event of UFC 296. GSP, however, believes that Covington would be a tough matchup for Edwards.
GSP, in a post-fight interview at UFC Fight Night International, when asked by the media to pick his winner for the main event of UFC 296, stated, “Well I’m a little bit biased because I’m friends with Leon Edwards and I sent him a text yesterday. I wish him the best of luck.”
The UFC Goat concluded by telling the media, “I mean it’s going to be a tough fight though. Covington definitely got all the skills to win that fight. But I believe Leon will win. I believe Leon is better.”
If there’s something who can try to reach GSP’s record, it’s none other than Leon Edwards. Since GSP has retired from the sport, his record stays there for whoever can beat it. However, there have been rumors about St-Pierre returning instead of the octagon for a super fight.

With UFC 300 approaching just around the corner, UFC and MMA fans are excited to see who will feature on the card. Fans are expecting to see the former middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre make a return for UFC 300 against Nick Diaz.
However, in the same interview, Georges shut down the rumors stating, “Absolutely not… I always told myself that would not fight in the cage after the age of 40.” He went on to explain that his competitive nature is what led to the 42-year-old being prone to injuries further implying that his return is unlikely.
