Sean O’Malley is gold. The American fighter turned in a skillful performance at UFC 292 as he clinched the bantamweight strap after a TKO of Aljamain Sterling. With his latest victory, he is not short of suitors. While some fans might expect an instant rematch, others believe number one contender Merab Dvalishvili deserves the next shot. But one of his former opponents, Petr Yan, is itching to have a go at ‘Suga’.
Notably, O’Malley, the newly crowned bantamweight champion, had earned the shot at the title after he collected a controversial split decision win against Yan at UFC 280. The fight received a lot of flak from the fans, as some believed the Russian fighter had done enough to bag the win. However, it appears luck is finally favoring ‘No Mercy’.

Some might contest his claims, as he is currently the #5 ranked fighter with three consecutive losses added to his resume. Most recently, he failed to put away Merab Dvalishvili and thus might have to fight his way back to the top. Besides, the waiting line is long as everyone wants a piece of the champion.
But what does the bantamweight king want for himself? His post-fight cage interview with Joe Rogan drops a hint. He wants a rematch, but not with Yan.

After he became the second Dana White Contender Series alumnus to become the champion, O’Malley specified his desire to fight Marlon Vera. ‘Chito’ is the fighter who handed him the first loss of his professional career. Therefore, the 28-year-old champion wants to avenge his loss.
He said, “I whoop Chito’s as* in December in Vegas at T-Mobile.” Meanwhile, Vera also fought under the same card and collected a sound win at UFC 292. However, it remains to be seen whether the UFC will cave into the champion’s demands, as a rematch with Sterling or a clash with Dvalishvili makes more sense.
